I have seen a couple of people mention using glue guns to stick down stats/mats which sounds like a good idea but is there any particular glue to use or does anybody know of any issues with stuff that may be toxic to snakey in hot glue?

The sticks of 'glue' aren't actually glue at all. hey are a mixture of plastic and wax (term wax used for ease of explanation ), when they heat up everything becomes soft but the waxy bit turns to vapour, you can see it steaming, this alters the balance to a more plastic than wax state and it becomes solid. Its totally non-toxic before, during and after going through the gun.

The melting point is over 60oC so for using to stick probes to heat mats (thats what I use it for) the mat will never get hot enough to even begin to soften the plastic.

One small point to note is that if you pull the gun away from the surface while any glue is still on the nozzle you create a fine thread of plastic, I cant think of any reason why these could be a risk to the snake but its best to just make sure if this happens you remove them.

It was for my stat that I want to stick down as she moves it sometimes in the night and it tends to curl up above the substrate. Thanks for the advice.

CT1 sealant is the one you want, I use the clear to seal my vivs and stick my probes down, no fumes whatsoever and cures in 24 hrs. The same company also sell a product called Multislove should you want to remove the sealent for any reason. I know it's on eBay at around £8.00
