Just caught one of the cresties tucking into a delicious shed!! He stopped when I took the pics though

Cute crestie! Why do they eat their shed? I know that they do it but why so? I saw a leopard gecko in a pet shop once lick the skin from it's eye and gulp it down. |

Ha ha thats brill!! I didn't know they shed like that,assumed it would be in bits like beardies. Looks like he's got a coat on complete with hood! |

OOOH you lucky person you. I've been looking out for harley doing anything shed related but there is just nothing that gives them away at all.
They eat it because its edible, waste not want not, I suppose it does help hide from predators, leaving gecko jackets everywhere would give it away they are there but I think the main reason is to recoup the energy and nutrients lost in the skin. |
