Well, hey, i'm Daniel, a 13 year old Carnivorous plant geek, who wants a corn snake!!!
I'm currently on a contract with my mum, after alot of pursuasion, she's agreed that if i tidy my pit of a room, and keep it clean till new year, i can get the reptile of my choice! (Excluding Anacondas, Pythons, alligators, crocodiles, gila monsters, monitor lizards, and komodo dragons) But a corn snake is my first choice, and will look good next to jezebel, my taratula... (That'll freak alot of you out )
Anyway, on my care info searches, i found this site, and it's a godsend. After a few hours reading, i feel capable of this commitment, and am eagerly awaiting new year!

LOL pitcher plants are my favourite. the tropical ones produce digestive enzymes to digest the insects chitin. very cool. best to start small... once you have your mum hooked on corns you can up the ante . what kind of tarantula you got?

Hi Daniel, welcome to the forum.
Great to see that you are doing your research on corn snakes before you get one. There are some great stickies on the forum with lots of information about initial set-ups and corn snake care that would be good for you to read through. Everyone on here is really friendly, so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. |

Wow! Such a warm welcome so far! I will be sure to do alot of research, just one question, would it be advisable not to give a small corn snake a tall vivarium, or will it not mind if i give it hides?
Casta, i love pitcher plants too, The Sarracenia espacially, although i only have 24 varieties so far...
As for my tarantula, it's a rosie (Chilean rose hair, or Grammostola Rosea)I'll post some pics soon if i can, to scare a few of our snake lovers here hehehe. |

wow! how big's your room? :-p its usually best to start a baby off in a small faun or viv or RUB (really useful box)then work it up. corns are quite aggrophobic (some more than others)i've currently got mine in a large flat faunarium round 45cm in length. she's happy enuff in there till she outgrows it i reckon a tall one with plenty of hides would be good so long as its got lots of stuff to climb and some cover. my wee one like to get high when shes out and before she grew would be found on the lid of her faun.
that help any? if i'm wrong please correct me folks |

Well, it's plastic, so it counts as a faunarium i think. Would i be ok to turn it on it's side? Tho' that could present some problems with handling. I may just buy a small faunarium like the one for my tarantula, which is only a few inches tall.
But my room? About 8 by 8 box room. I have a tall space saving bed, and a few shelves and a wardrobe, aswell as a desk under my bed. I have plants and my tarantula on top of the shelves, so the snake (Either going to be called Medusa or Noodles) will go there to methinks... |

Welcome along! I have a small faun about a foot by eight inches by six inches for my hatchie. If you go too big too quick they can get a bit stressed and prefer smaller spaces to explore. As for climbing i guess you'll find out if your snake wants to climb once it's in its new home. I'm impatient for you. Keep that room tidy! |

Thanks everyone! I also had an only fools and horses inspired moment, and thought of Casandra, or Rodney too Hehehe.
I'm definetly going to keep it tidy, tho' once i have the snake i can turn it into a pit again... Another thing, is it advisable to keep a snake out for large ammounts of time, and let it coil around your arm, or neck? |

You can have a corn snake out for handling for as long as it is comfortable doing so. You get to know the signs when they've had enough, they get a bit flighty and start trying to get away to hide, though if it disappears down a sleeve it will happily curl up in there until you fish it out.
Small corns aren't best around your neck, they don't pose you any threat but its a long way to fall if you are stood up etc so they are better in your hands and under some control. Though when I'm sat watching TV I will let Spot, my cornsnake just wander about, he normally ends up in a sleeve or in a pocket or checking out nostrils.
Do you have a morph in mind? My favourites are Anery and Pewter but I also like wild types too. Also are you thinking a hatchling or something a bit older? |

I'm not really good for identifying morphs, so i'm just after what looks best to me. Also, i'm going for a hatchling, so i can watch it grow to full size, and have it for as long a i can. |
