Hi everyone!
My names Danae, Im from East London.
Sep 13th 2011 I bought my first ever snake! A gorgeous baby Snow Corn. I had to confess to the reptile shop owner I was a complete novice and would need all the help and advice I could get before I bought one!! I initially went in just to hold one, as I'd never done this before, I wanted to see whether I'd like it or not But as soon as he handed her to me.... It was love at first sight!
He 'sexed' her and let me know that she was around 10weeks old. It was then that I named her Misssi!!
I knew I was prepared enough after reading through loads of caresheets and so I decided to give her a 'forever home' !!
At the time, looking back I should have asked when she was last fed etc... but to be honest, I didnt think.
Now, soon to be 4months old, Misssi has turned into a proper 'little Misssi' !! She's quite nosey .....and rather greedy!! She ate her first pinky the evening after I got her, which I was delighted with as I'd heard lots of stories of them having trouble eating! She now lets me know when she's hungry by hunting around her viv, although I never leave it longer than 6/7 days. But as shes got slightly bigger, she's started showing signs of hunger after 4/5days! I went back to the reptile shop owner to let him know that after one pinky she's seems keen to eat another, so he suggested seeing if she'd take two.... which of course, she did! I might move her up to fuzzies the next time I buy her food... any advice on this would be appreciated!
She's usually more active during the evenings, however I've not seen much of her over the last two nights, which hopefully means she'll be ready to shed soon... she seems to have become much less active... even if its just poking her nose out of her hide to see whats going on, she has not even been doing that!
Oh and one question... Misssi's decided that her water bowl and more commonly the area directly around it.... is best used as a toilet!! Is it common for Corn Snakes to Poop in the same area?
Thanks for Reading! xx

Hey Danae, welcome to the forum - congratulations on getting Misssi - we need to see pictures btw
Sounds like it could well be a shed coming (especially if she hasn't shed since you got her).
Re: food - sounds like your doing fine - as long as you are generally following the "food should be no more than 1.5x the width of the widest part of your snake" then moving up to fuzzies should be fine - especially so considering Misssi seems to be eating 2 pinkies fine.
My Corn always poops around the edge of his Viv - not in the same place, but always around the edge. Maybe Misssi has a little drink, then thinks "oooh gotta go...." |

Hi there
yep they love to poop in their water, you're definately in the right place for advice, help and support with your new hobby, if its not one yet it will be, its addictive.
Sounds like there could be a shed on its way, its more difficult to tell with a snow, but the eyes clouding over can still be seen if you look for it.
Did the shop not give you feeding/shedding records when you bought it - this would have given you an idea on how often they were feeding and whether the food was taken or not, but if she's managing 2 pinkies she should be ok with a fuzzie. |

HaHa!! Yay!! A fellow East Londoner!!!
I can definately see myself getting addicted to owning snakes... I'm seriously considering getting another around the same age as Misssi so she's got a friend! I heard two girls are better to live together.... I hope she definately is a girl...!!!
I love the way everyone lists their pets on their posts.. but what do the numbers and decimal points mean?! I cant quite work it out!

Hi and welcome. It sounds like you have got the feeding well under control.
Snakes don't really need friends so, although there is nothing to stop you getting another snake, it's not the best thing to house them together. This thread goes into the whole co-habitting debate http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1070.
The snakes indicate the sexes of each animal. so 1.2.3 means 1 male, 2 females, and 3 unknown. |
