Records can come in handy if the snake has any health problems...i keep record of shedding dates (and time taken from when i notice he has gone into blue), feeding item/size, and length/weight (recently started).
I don't think keeping records is essential - unless you are breeding/selling (we all know a seller should keep good records).
To be totally honest, my reason for keeping records is more of a "parent" thing...like having baby records etc |

As mentioned, records are very useful in case any issues crop up. The more snakes you have, the more important it becomes because there's no way you'll remember what ate what when, which one shed when etc. I've got 14 snakes and record feeding, shedding, weight and length. Some people also keep track of toilet habits too. But I'm also a bit anal when it comes to stats so I like doing it anyway... |

For the sake of a few seconds writing down important stuff they are worth it. I'd say for the majority of the time they are useful but should something come up, illness or weightloss etc then they become essential and you'll kick yourself you didn't take the time to make notes.
I only write dow;, feeds, sheds and once a month or so I like to weigh and measure them to see they aren't gaining too much weight, or losing it (with other snakes for instance my Royal, they only poop once every 3 months so its handy to know when they last went too). |

I would say records are pretty essential. If there ever comes a time when you have to take your snake to the vets then they are very important in giving the vet a history of your snake. It allows you to keep track of feeds and sheds as it so easy to forget things. I also try and put down when they poop as that is a great indicator that everything is working as it should be. Records are especially important when snakes decide to fast as it helps you to monitor when they last ate and how much weight they are losing. The less important side is that it is great to look back over records and see how much they have grown. |

I finally found a use for the Apple iCal app. Everything is easily viewed by Day, Week or Month with the colour coding. It is also important to keep a note of the early season non-feeding weeks which can run for months.
An ordinary 'page per month' calendar is handy as a quick note pad.

hmmm I keep records of everything but "dumps" LOL I would advise to OP to keep records. Doesnt take long to do it. Could potentially come in handy saving your snake. xx |

The dump records are very useful in avoiding extra laundry days. |
