Hi guys right its becoming apparent that im really gonna have to do something about space its official theres more floor space in my flat dedicated to living qaurters for pets than myself lol (which i happen to think is the way all good ethical pet owners would have it lol)
But and after reading all the threads of cohabiting theres absolutely no way i want to risk it im sure plenty of people do it with no problems but the anxiety would drive me nuts lol id rather not have snakes in various rooms like i do with the fishtanks id like them all in one place that way they will all be handled eqaully and none given any more time than the others.
so im considering getting a rack built to hold 6-8 rubs i just dont understand how theyre heated what do you use and where do you buy it ? |

A very popular rack system uses PAX wardrobes from Ikea. A lot of people seem to be using them. You can either use RUBs or Ikea's own KOMPLEMENT range of tubs. I think a wardrobe costs about £50 with a couple of shelves, and you can add as many shelves as you need. Think they sell them in packs of 2, but don't know how much. I think (but by no means sure) that the larger tubs are about £12. Really should have gone down that route myself, instead of building my own rubbishy rack using cheap white B&Q contiboard! Still, it does the job which I suppose is what really matters.
You can either use heat strips on each shelf or rout a gap for a heat cable and cover with aluminium tape. Give it a google, there are loads. |

I'm glad you've asked this as I've been thinking the same. Will take a look at those ikea wardrobes.
Heat strips are just longer versions of heat mats. |

I cant find the heat strips anywhere just elongated heat mats but thats gonna be awkward i think the cable looks like a much safer option but i dont know the first thing about racks or building them hence the thread lol

Heat strips are on here: http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/reptile-heat-mats/
I'm with you on that. How the hell do you make a groove for the heat cable, thats what I want to know....and the best way of threading them? |

I did a quick google search and came across another idea which uses the "TROFAST" storage range. However the tubs that come in the range are not transparent, so not sure if they would be appropriate.
The PAX solution for me would be too large - it's a wardrobe after all. Then again, I've only got one baby corn so far...
Looking at your sig Paulie, I wonder if you could also use the PAX solution with your Chinchillas also, would their cage slip onto a shelf within the wardrobe, perhaps over the corns? |

Anastasia my chinnys are in mahoosive cages that take nearly a qaurter of my bedroom i try to give them as much space as i possibly can because they do on ocasion like to have a good sprint around the cage walls (..matrix eat your heart out my chinnys dont need cgi!!) have tried keeping them in wood and plastic cages in the past theyl just chew theyre way out of them or destroy them lol the pax wardrobe might be an idea though thanks guys |

For anyone interested in making a PAX rack...
Single wardrobe for small rubs, £35... http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80156931#/80156931/ Larger wardrobe for larger/more rubs, £50... http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00156954/ Small shelves x2, £10... http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50215121/#/40156914/ Larger shelves x2, £14... http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80156912
Those links all go to birch effect. White is even cheaper!
And you can get Komplement tubs to match the sizes too, if you wanted them instead of rubs. :)
