Hi
Well have finally got out first corn "Fang" really impressed he/she (Not sure yet) seems really happy.

Once we got home "Fang" had a good look around, had a cr*p and settled for the evening. I'm hoping this is a good sign.

Have attached a couple of pics of the setup, not 100% about the unguarded Infrared heat unit there is currently a dome with a base guard but "Fang" has already have a good maul around and went too close to the heat source for me.

Am thinking of getting the following heat lamp guard has anyone used one of these any recommendations?

There is also no Thermostat being used currently which I am also a bit uncomfortable about, am looking to use the following

Please have a look and let me know your thoughts.

Bought the setup from a local really good supplier. Not questioning their knowledge but have invested in "fang" and want to make sure he/she has the best.

Couldn't upload the images so have a look at the link which shows "Fang" in the Viv and the lamp.

Thanks for the forum it's been really helpful to understand what we are getting

That is the thermostat im currently using and i have to say its fantastic! No problems with it, easy to use and really accurate. AS for the heat lamp, i ripped mine out. They dont need that much heat (in my opinion) so now have LEDs in my viv which give off no heat at all, but are nice to light up the viv.

I would say maybe add another hide, and not sure if thats too small for him!? (pro's will know more) But to me it looks a bit on the small side. How long is he?

Fang is gorgeous too btw ^^

EDIT - You can also get that stat cheaper on Ebay. Got mine alot cheaper than that, so worth a look there.

Thanks for this. The viv is a little on the small side but am going to buy a new one in a month or so. Currently he measures about 60-75cm

Cheers

first thing definitely take out that heat lamp, they need a hot and a cold area so 2 hides would be better once you get a bigger viv that is. as the viv he is in aint big enough for two hides, but he is lovely

Fang is gorgeous, but will need a heat matt, hide at hot and a hide at the cool end, really does not need the lamp, deff keep the stick, that is great!

Hi All, Thank you all for your responses, really appreciate it, you have some beautiful snakes.

It's been really difficult to know exactly what to do!
I intended on getting new Viv for Fang any way and have decided to also get a heat mat and thermostat.

Probably a stupid question but the heat mat goes on the inside, I currently use Beech chippings are there any risks?

Fang has been really quiet since Thursday when he arrived, think a shed is coming up is this normal behavior ?

The heatmat will be fine in the viv, snakes can just go quiet and hide, it is possible he is ready for a shed, just look for him going really dull, his eyes will go blue, then he will go clear then shed
