I'm sorry if this is another stupid question that has all the old hands rolling their eyes!

Baldrick is in blue and coming into his first shed since he's been with us. He is a rescue all I know about his past is since he was handed over to rescue. Always eaten well, has had one easy and successful shed while there, passed a general health check with flying colours. No subsequent sign of any ill health.

Once he settled in (very quickly and easily, dreamily so) he has eaten/drunk/peed/poo'd with no problems. Moved him onto larger food less frequently 2 weeks ago which seems to suit him down to the ground. I *think* he is about 4-5 months old and he has been here for just over a month. 26 inches long and 64g.

I saw he was coming into blue and was due a feed, his temperament hasn't changed at all but he refused food so I thought I would just leave it until he's finished his shed but then he did a horrible poo, much more loose than usual, what seemed to be quite a lot of clear mucus, not malodourous as such but not his usual smell (sorry to be gross) and a little bit earlier than is usual for him. He is quieter than normal but I was expecting that, I know they can get loose tummies.
My question is really, is it safe for him to be allowed to get on with shedding, have an eye kept on him and go from there or am I being misled and putting something down to shedding that should be sorted asap. I apologise if I'm being ridiculous but I would never forgive myself if he was suffering and I just left it because I thought it was to be expected. Apart from that he has no symptoms of any ill health.
Feel free to tell me to do one if I am being stupid

Sam x

I don't think there is anything to worry about a runny poo is just a poo you find soon than the drier one thats sat for a while. Corn poo is icky slimey sloppy yukkyness, and can be very different in consistency from mainly black to mainly urate and my personal favourite the fur braid of undigestable fur.

Just leave him to shed, its good you now know he doesn't feed when shedding so you will know to not offer and save food instead.

The best thing is that if your not sure to just ask. Your not been stupid, not asking is the silly thing to do.

Well, that's a bit of a weight off!! Thank you for your reply. I've had a couple of furry bits (not personally obvs), but the rest of his poos had been pretty similar to each other which I think is what made me worry about this one. Maybe I've just managed to find them all at roughly the same time after being passed, we have our little routine after all! My poor boy is sat in bed looking sorry for himself so the sooner he gets his shiny new skin the better! Thank you again, Sam x

lol so pleased simmy you pooped after you'd shed

in all seriousness, shedding is a natural process and there isn't really a lot that can be done to stop of postpone the shedding process, so you are best to leave him to get on with it and just keep an eye on him

^ This made me laugh so hard. Well I'm very glad your poop went well, must be a load off! *Groan* The viscous mucus was what worried me but it must just have been a wet one. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I'm more than happy to leave him to it and shed in peace for as long as it takes him I just wish I could cheer my bonny little chap up is all!
I was fairly sure I was over-reacting but it's been a long time since I have cared for a snakie, I love him to bits and we lost our precious little hog girlie just a week after Balders came home so that combination of circumstances has made me a bit silly and prone to worrying over nothing. It wont be long before I'm back into the swing of things. Thanks for being so kind
