My snake is going through the process of shedding (its first time with me), but hasnt gone blue yet. I noticed its milky belly yesterday, and she hasnt been very active for the last 24hrs. Currently hiding under the kitchen roll. I am going to make a damp hide for it should it be needed. I have a few questions...
1. Im going to use an old takeaway tub (cleaned and disinfected). Do i need to drill air holes in it? 2. How much moss is required in the hide? 3. Will it stay damp for the period of shedding or will i need to re-dampen it? 4. Which end of the viv do i put it in? Hot or Cold??
I am aware i need to put a larger water bowl in. I currently have a small one (Exo Terra Small Water Dish). Should i put a larger one in or is that one of adequate size??
Apologies for my constant questions, i just want to get it right... |

I dont think you really need to go to any great lengths to help the snake shed both mine shed perfectly fine inside theyre vivs setup as they are i didnt have to add anything |

Kellogs has a value ice cream tub with 2 entry holes, the moss is about 1/2, it gets sprayed every other day(damp, not soaked), he gets this when he goes blue, taken out when shed |

if this is the first shed with you i wouldnt do anything to intervene, it is only when there is normally a problem with shedding would you add anything to the viv. there is also no need to add a larger water dish aswell as the moss hide too much humidity can cause RI.
our moss hide has one entrance and no aditional ventilation in it. |

Ok. Thanks for the tips guys. I will leave her be for the time being then and see how she gets on. OH is at home today and seen her moving about. Still hiding under the kitchen roll tho.
EDIT: To raise humidity a little, should i just move the water to the warm end whilst she is in blue or just leave everything as is? Can you tell its my first shed... |

Think i'll relax more once its done. I was pretty stressy upto its first feed and poop session. Getting the temp right etc. Just shedding left and i'll be a bit more confident. |

I was just as nervous as you with my first snakes first shed. I did exactly as Gmac recommended though and found he shed fantastically with no help,as do my others. Will look forward to shiny snake pics soon. |
