Hello everyone, this is my first post here, just looking for some advice...
Fluffy went missing five months ago and we finally found her yesterday! She was happily basking in the sun outside the front door to the house.
She has become a bit wild since we last saw her; although she let my Dad pick her up easily when he first found her, she later bit my sister and struck at my Mum. When I arrived home to see her, she seemed to respond to my voice but she seemed very nervous and I was reluctant to touch her in case she bit me and I didn't want to stress her out more. She's back in her vivarium and today she was tucked away in her hide, lying very still. Before, she used to pop her head out whenever I talked to her!
My question is: do you think she will return to her normal, docile self? Is there anything I should do to make it easier for her to readjust to captive life? Also, when should I attempt to feed her again? I'm worried that all the stress will cause problems - plus she hasn't been starving while outside as she is fatter than when she escaped! |

thats fab news that you've found her again, especially since she was outside. I'd leave her for a week, as if you'd only just got her, just changing the water and spot cleaning then maybe offer her a feed next week, only time will tell if she'll be back to her oldself |

congrats on finding her i'd prolly give her 2 weeks to adjust to being in captivity again, try a feed after 6-7 days then try another feed after 5-6 days, when she's had 48 hours to digest her meal then try a brief handling session. that should give her time to settle in and not be starving as god knows what she's been living on!
is she back in a secure enclosure now? |

That is fantastic news!! Glad she had found food and is healthy, i think in time once she gets used to you again she will be fine as long as you treat her as you would a new snake. |

Huge congratulations on finding her!! I think the fact that she was originally in captivity with you suggests that it shouldn't take too long to get her back to her old self |

Great news that she turned up! You must be incredibly happy! One of mine has been MIA for a few weeks now. Hope he turns up soon too! Congrats again on finding her.
As GP said, take it slow and steady and hopefully she'll tame down again soon enough. |

Fantastic news that your snake has turned up and is looking well. I can only echo the above. I'm sure she will settle back into captive life before too long. You will have to post pics of the little tinker once she has completed her settling in period. |

That's great news. It just goes to show that you should never give up hope.
Just give Fluffy a week or two to settle back in without handling her, she has had a stressful few months. |

Thank you all for the advice :) I was amazed when I got the phone call from my Mum saying she had turned up. Since she escaped I always thought about her and even had dreams about finding her but as time went on I really thought she was gone for good. Especially considering my Mum breeds Siamese cats and has a few in the house!
Fluffy is definitely secure in her vivarium now, she only escaped because a family friend stayed overnight in the room and messed about with the vivarium doors... sigh. I really hope she will return to her old self, she was so nice to handle before. I will leave her alone for at least a week and just keep an eye on her. |
