Just a quick one, I'm very worried about my male corn, he's 12 yrs old and has never ever refused a feed, regurged, or had any illness. He has been perfect. However he has regurged his last 3 meals and is beginning to lose weight fast, seems to have lost about 200g over the last 3 months, which seems a very rapid decline.

My question is, I believed snakes are supposed to live 12ish years or so, but what are other peoples experiences? Do snakes suddenly just keel over when they die of old age? Or do they show weight loss/other symptoms before passing?

I'd kinda like to know just so I know exactly what care to give my little guy... Thanks.

could be going through a mid life crisis lol sorry, is there any females near him?? males trend to regurge or not feed at all because they are totally focused on the females, if not i would echo what paulie78 said

12 isn't particularly old for a corn, they can live into their late teens or even older.

Male snakes can go off their food during breeding season but don't regurgitate. Regurge generally means there is something wrong (ie temperature, feeding too large a prey item, poor set up, illness, etc). As he has got to 12 without a problem and is now losing weight then I would take him to the vet. Try to find a vet that specialises in reptiles, if you haven't already, as most vets won't have a clue about snakes.

Hope he is ok.

This certainly doesn't sound like a breeding season issue. 200g weight loss does sound pretty serious and I would strongly advise getting him to a vet that specialises in snakes. I don't think 12 years old is that old for a corn but I guess it can depend on the snakes history. Even if it is down to 'old age' then he still needs to be seen by a vet.

How long have you had him for? Has anything changed in his set-up lately or has there been any animals brought into the home?

You really need to find out what is causing the regurges and weightloss as if it is an illness or parasite there is a danger of it being passed to your other snakes
