we have had dave for over a month now. he didnt feed for the first week and his prev owners were feeding him 5 pinkies. i moved him on to fuzzies and he had 1 for his first feed and has had 2 a week since. i have read on this forum that some snakes go 3 weeks without pooing but he hasnt poo'd since we have had him and im a little worried. he is looking healthy and alert is 36 inches long and 61 g in weight. im off to have him probed today to establish if he is dave or davina so i will ask at the rep store but just want to know if there is a problem or should i just wait for a giant elephant poo to appear. im still thinking his meals are a little small so will get his meals sized at the store but could to small a meal mean that the waste is so tiny i cant see it in his light sprinkling of aspen ? sorry to go on but its my first small snake and i dont want him to be poorly

I have read on here that some people will give their snakes a wee luke warm bath as that helps the bowels to move xxx

I would have thought that 2 fuzzies a week would produce some poop by now. It might be worthwhile changing his substrate to kitchen roll for a while so it is easier to see if he has passed any waste.

Mamma is right that a bath can help to stimulate bowel movements. If you are thinking of doing it then you need to make sure that the water is about half as deep as the snake and is between 27 and 29C. Alot of snakes don't like swimming so it can cause stress.

Maybe due for a shed, sometimes they can hold on for ages until they start sheding and then go all over their shed so you can't keep it :D

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

had dave probed and he is a boy yayyyy. the guy that probed him also said that he is definately a snow so thats sorted he also said that i havent fed him enough so i am armed with some correctly sized mice and fingers crossed will see some poo sometime soon. dinner day is monday so am looking forward to feeding him. he let me watch him eat last week for the first time but i thought then the mouse was a little small as it went in very quickly with no effort. all your advice has always been brilliant im very glad to have stumbled across this forum.
thank you
Lisa

Congrats on getting it confirmed he is a boy :-) - try and remember the "1 & a half times the size of the widest part of the snake" when it comes to food :-)

I'm not sure i should...but i'm going to say it...i hope he poos for you soon :-P

Sounds odd, but try massaging him. Worked for me when Lister a wee bit bunged up! xD

61g at 3' in length does seem very light. Barnaby is not far off 3' and weighs 176g so is quite a bit heavier.

I'm sure that you'll soon get him to a healthy weight now he is on a more appropriate size of food.

I'd try giving him a bath to get everything moving. It doesn't need to be deep, a tub filled with a couple of inches if water is plenty. The movement his body makes as he swims should stimulate him to poo.
