I moved harry up into his 2ft viv about 4 weeks ago, he seems happy, has been exploring and feeding as normal. The heatmat is stated with a thermometer probe on the mat too, this ranges in temps from 28 - 29 degrees C.
My question is, Harry has taken to lying underneath the heatmat, i'm presuming because i have attached the stat to the mat that this will control the underside too, but thought i would ask - he's unlikely to burn there?? or should i move him and try and secure the mat to the bottom of the viv.

If the stat probe is fixed to the mat then it shouldn't be a problem. If your worried though stick something heavy on the mat to hold it down or use aquarium sealant or hot glue to stick it down. |

as long as the stat probe stays in position it should be fine, i'm going to be contraversial now and admit to sticking our heatmats down with masking tape.............. |

thanks peeps, the stat tends to stay in place and i've just checked on him and he's curled up in a ball underneath it, might stick it down though just to be safe, he looks like he's still digesting his last meal of 2 fuzzy's |

I use that as well. Masking tape isn't that bad though really. It's got a very low adhesive quality to it to shouldn't stick to any snakes. It's duct, duck, gaffa, pvc, foil tapes and similar that can cause issues.
I've got a brand of tape at home that was used during some of the construction of the Esso Refinery in Fawley, it's got such a strong adhesive to it, that it can be used underwater. Needless to say I'd never use that in the vivs. :) |
