Hello,
We've been keeping corn snakes and other rat and house snakes for 6 years now.
One of younger snakes about 2 1/2 to 3 years old has started to mouth me when she is out.
All of my other snakes are very friendly and will never bite, even when I smell of mouse.
But this one snake likes to bite/mouth me whenever she is out or coming out. She does the rigid, smell and open mouth slowly motions - like she does when looking to eat her food, thankfully she does not strike at me. It doesn't hurt at the moment - well only when she gets a finger etc

Can anyone give me some practical advise on how to get her out of this habit which is increasing in frequency.

I do not handle food, ratties or other reptiles before handling her, to avoid the risk of her thinking that I am food. She doesn't bite my partner as much as me.

Kind Regards everyone, Sam x

how big is she? and how much and how often is she fed?

it might be appropriate to increase her food intake, and i'd personally leave her alone for a month with no handling or interaction, sometimes a break is what they need, more handling isn't always the way to go

Hi Gingerpony,

Not sure how long/big she is, but she's about the same size as another snake of the same age - not that that helps you...

They are fed about once a week now, they were 4-5 days as hatchlings.

Because she is housed with others, not handling her will be difficult, as they all come out into tubs to be fed.

I could give her a little snack in between main meals to try...

To be fair i'll try anything once :-)

I don't like to over feed my snakes to make them bigger... They get fed when they start mooching around the viv (about 6-7 days) and get fed food no bigger than 1 1/2 their girth width.
