Hi!
I've rehomed an unwanted corn and just want to check I'm doing things right!
We picked him up on Sunday and fed him 2 fluffs on Monday (which he ate fine - ,this is what the previous owner was giving him, but I will prob give him 3 next week as he's 18 months old) after putting his small plastic box (without the lid on) into his new bigger viv as the plastic thing he was in was way too small for him but I didn't want to stress him too much so soon after he came to live with us.
The 4ft viv has a strip light in the middle and a halogen light at one end, and I have put a heat mat at the same end as the halogen light. The shop I bought the viv from said that I should put my thermostat in the centre of the viv and connect it to the halogen light, but didn't say if should plug the heatmat into it too? Also, I've forgotten the day and night temperatures she said to set the thermostat to?
Finally, he has done nothing but hide under the log in the cool end of his little box since I fed him on Monday evening - is this normal? He hasn't explored his big viv at all. Sorry for the essay, and thanks in advance!

3 of any prey item is too much, their stomach is only so long and you don't want a queue to get in there. If it needs more food feed a bigger mouse instead. I'd also ditch the lights, not needed. The heat mat is all thats required to keep a corn happy, stat it and get the temp to 28oC (day & night) not using the stat markings but a digital thermometer with the probe on the mat, if you have no way of accurately setting the temp then its warm this time of year, swutch off all heat sources until you can.
Digesting is a high energy activity, they effectively sleep while they digest, 2-3 days and he'll be back and will leave you a smelly present normally at this time too.
Oh and forgot to mention, welcome to the weird and very wonderful world of reptiles. |
