We got a corn snake for the first time about 6 weeks ago. He is 18 months old. He has been feeding well etc. He has been great to handle and we absolutely adore him. 3 days ago his eyes went milky and so did his skin. Classic shedding we thought. Today, he has his usual eyes back, usual colour and no sign of a shed any where. He is really bad tempered and is hissing at everyone. He wont come out to play. We fed him on Saturday. The shop didn't have his usual size of mouse, so we bought two small ones which our snake (Tango) ate keenly. His vivarium absolutely stinks. Do we need to get him to a vet? We already researched a specialist reptile vet before we bought him. Any suggestions or help please? Alison |

he is still in the shedding process, once he clears up he will shed normally a few days later so is nothing to worry about. He may well be bad tempered still as he will still be poorly sighted so will just want to hide away. |

Thank you. I have read so much about corn snakes but I don't remember ever seeing anything but that is the value of a forum. |

Hi and welcome to the forum. Congratulations on getting your snake.
I would expect him to shed within the next few days. I think mine usually shed about 4 days after their eyes have cleared up.
As for the stinky viv, have a good look through it for hidden poops. It took me ages to find one in one of my vivs a couple of weeks ago. I could smell it, i just couldn't see it - until I thought to look inside one of his tubes. Sneaky monkey tried to hide it. |

He will soon shed now that his eyes have cleared and you'll have a fresh, 'new' looking snake. And kdlang is right, they're very good at hiding smelly stuff! |
