Hi Welcome to the forum. Best plan is like figs said, read the caresheet and stickies. Then if you have any questions post them for us to answer. |

Thank you for your reply. My corn is in a 36" wooden viv. I am using a thermostat controlled heat mat and aspen subtrrate. I basically bought an adult corn snake starter kit and added a second shelter, artificial plants and a large piece of mopani wood that I got from a pet shop.
My corn is 3' long and weighs 337g. I have had him about 3 weeks.
He started going through the shedding process about 8 days ago. Today he began to shed but it is coming off in lots i bits. This started at about 2pm today and he has shed most of it but he still has some skin starting from the top of his head to aprox 10" down his back. He has a large water bowl that he can get in and i put in a humidity hide when I first noticed that he was going to shed. As far as I can tell I am doing everything right but I would like to note that when i got him he had a small mark on the top of his head, possibly from a burn from the heat lamp he had with his previous owner. The skin shed problem seems to start from this point. Any advice on this issue would be great.
Also, please could you tell me how to add photos on here. Thanks.

Hi and welcome. I'm impressed that a complete set-up actually included a thermostat as many don't. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. You could try letting him slither through a damp towel to see if that brings off the remaining shed. Has his eye caps come off?

Thank you. I did the damp towel thing this evening and he is currently having a good rub around around his tank and the shed that remains is starting to come away now. I think that he just needs a little more time and he will get there. I havent found a complete head piece but his eyes and face are now very bright and shiney so it would seem that they have come off in the small pieces that I have collected from the tank. The last 6" of tail came off in one piece so I know that the tail tip is off too. I bought my starter kit from 'net pet shop' and it was very reasonably priced too. So far the only extras that I have had to get were the viv decorations and the second hide. Thanks again for your advice. x |
