Hey There,
Just got my corn yesterday - and the previous owner said it needed feeding today.
She told me, just to place the mouse on the log and it will find it anyways.
Is this the best method?
And,
Still a bit freaked out to hold him. Just worried if he will bite.
Does it hurt?
Whats the easiest way to hold them?

you do feel them bite, but it doesnt really hurt....its more of the shock factor. How old is the corn?
There are people who feed their snakes in their viv but there are others who feed outwith the viv. I personaly feed outwith the viv in a seperate feeding rub as it helps to avoid having your snake consume any of the substrate from its tank. Consumption of substrate can cause impaction of the snake's intestinal tract, which wouldn't be good.
When handling move slowly and be gentle. Don't make fast movements toward a snake's head, it makes them nervous.Be confident too. If the snake seems defensive stick at it and just continue to pick it up. If you dont then it will learn to do this constantly to avoid being handled.
Did you get the snake with the viv? Or is it in a new viv? Its recommended to leave the snake for 5-7 days to settle into its new home, which means no feeding it or handling. A late feed isnt gonna harm the snake in anyway.
Also, once the snake has taken a feed its best to not handle it for 48 hrs as it give the snake time to digest the feed. If the feed isnt digested it can cause the snake to regurgitate the feed. |

Hi,
I got my first snake last Monday and was nervous of handling too.... I managed to persuade hubby to pick him up the first time but once I had held him once at home i felt fine to just pick him up myself. After 3 days of handling now I can just grab him without thinking about it so you'll loose the nerves very quickly!

| If he was handled often then he should be ok to handle. He needs to get used to your scent though. I was told thie wee trick by someone on this forum and it worked fantasticaly: carry one of your socks around with you for 24 hrs, then place it in the viv. That way the snake becomes used to your scent being around him. |

I myself bought a snake complete with its housing earlier this year. He was well handled by his previous owner but I still gave him a few days to settle before feeding him as although he was used to the home he was in,a move is stressful for a snake.
I myself feed my snakes in seperate tubs as I worry about impaction,although plenty of people feed them in their enclosures with no issue. You could always lay some kitchen paper or something down in his viv for feeding him.
Just make slow confident movements on approaching him,make sure he's seen you and gently pick him up supporting his body. If he's been well handled you should have no problem. |

I had the same problem (with handling)
My advice is either just go for it or buy some skin tight gloves and try with those. iI know they will not bite but it helped me the first time. After a couple of handlings I realised that he would never bite or aything and I just binned the gloves.
