my thermostat when set on 28 the lowest it drops is 26.8 and then it goes back up to 28

if i set it on to 29 the lowest it goes is 27.8 but the highest it goes is 29.8

is this to high and the thermostat i have is a thermacontrol 2

it's a safe temperature range for incubation but aren't the thermocontrol stats supposed to be better than that?
where have you got the stat and therm probes? and what's your incubator like?

my incubator is a poly box with a matted stat but the stat is currently in my tank and its on top of the chippings/aspen

if your stat probe isn't in the incubator it's not measuring the temps in the incubator, that's why there's such fluctuation - the stat is controlling and regulating the mat in the viv instead
