Hi all!
My new Corn, fluffy, has always been fed inside his viv in the past by his previous owner. Id like to 'train' him so he'll eat outside of the viv+im after advice on how to do this quickly+successfully! I fed him last week when i first got him in his viv as a 1 off, but tonight ive taken him out+put him in his own large feeding tub+offered him the mouse! He definately knows its there, but wasnt taking it, so ive put the lid (with plenty of air holes) on+put the tub inside his viv ontop of the heat mat. im hoping the scent of his viv+the warmth will prompt him to eat.
Id eventually like him to associate the tub with food, as Blaze does.....so any advice on how??

| You can't train a snake unfortunately. They will either eat the food or they won't. Just give it time. |

| he's eaten the mouse he was left in the tub with in less than 10mins, so im gonna feed him this way next few feeds, then try offering in tub again! This way is fine, i just really dont want to feed in his viv on the substrate! |

| I feed my corn in a tub, he'd eat on a washing line (most of the time). I do think its better providing they will eat in a tub and you have the time. |

| I too would like to try and feed Luna, in a seperate tub, just so there is less confusion about putting my hand in the viv being associated with feeding time, my concern is moving her back into the viv with a full tummy, i am worried that it might make her regurge... |

The line of thinking that they will associate putting your hand in the viv is nonsense.
People worry that by feeding in the viv all the time they will get a bitey snake. But if you feed in a different tub all the time there is no reason why your snake wouldn't associate being taken out of its viv with feeding and still bite.
It amuses me how keepers apply that "logic" to in viv feeding, but not vice-versa. |

I open the lid of the viv... and kinda hold the tub (slightly tipped) over it after Romeo is done. He just slithers back into his viv. |

| I now feed all mine inside the rubs they live in. It hasn't changed the way they behave towards me when I put my hand in to change water or to check them over. They seem to know the difference between me and a mouse! Even my king snake who is mental around food, does not strike at my hand when I put it inside his rub, yet if I wave a mouse inside it he strikes within seconds! |

It's ok to pick them up to put them back in the viv, I did it with mine, or you can tip the tub and just let them slide out the on their own or leave the feeding tub in the viv and let them get out in their own time. |

You could always put down a few sheets of kitchen roll to stop that or use a feeding tray/dish. |

| Alice has always refused to eat outside of her viv. She always gets fed in a small rub placed in the viv, then it's removed once she slides off to her hiding spot. |
