I had Carmellia out tonight and while I was handling her I noticed that her vent seemed a bit pink. On closer inspection it seemed to open up then close over again. Hard to explain but I managed to get some pics. They aren't the greatest quality but I wanted some opinions on whether it warrants a trip to the vets or not. I did wonder if she was just about to poop but I had her out over half an hour and she did nothing. I also began to wonder if it was a sign she is really a he. I haven't had her sexed but she was sold to me as female.

Yeah she shed 10 days ago
It would be just my luck to have her turn out to be a boy. I'm already well outnumbered. I guess it is always possible that at some point I have got Peanut and Carmellia the wrong way round. They are very very similar in appearance and are almost the same size and weight. I guess I better get them both probed lol |

Like GP said, I certainly wouldn't be worrying about it. |

some of my girls have long tails like the boys do, it's not a hugely accurate way of sexing lol
back to the vent - i think it might have just been pulled a bit from the shedding process. is she on aspen or paper? or anything else? i'd be inclined to pop her on paper just to keep the area as clean and irritation-free as possible to enable easy monitoring hun
btw, sorry i wasn't on form the other week, when i went to the Dr i actually had pneumonia!! on loads of meds now and feeling much better :) hope everything was ok with the your purchases? |

Thanks GP. I was actually thinking I should double check the sex of both Peanut and Carmellia since I am thinking of breeding them when they are big enough. It will be no good if I find out they are both the same sex after all lol.
She is on aspen so will put her on paper to be sure it doesn't get irritated. I just thought it was a bit weird the way it kept opening up n closing over again.
No worries about last week. It was lovely to see you and Daz again. Hope Lewis is feeling better too. All the snakes are due to be cleaned out so I can see some viv revamps going on. Saying that, I'v got 3 snakes getting ready to shed so will have to wait until they are done. Why do they all decide to do it at the same time! I need to get ready for the new additions as well |
