I know the magic 3/3/3 rule for breeding females (3 feet long, 3 years old, 300g) but are there any similar golden rules for the lads? I am hoping to breed my hypo lavender eventually and he's rather young at the moment (CB10!) but I want to ensure he is nice and ready in future years. |

a well grown-on 2 year old should breed successfully, our not-so-grown-on 2 year old we're not sure if he's up for the job! though i have heard of males under a year old siring clutches! (doesn't mean it's a good idea to try though or that it had no health implications for him) |

I fear if I tried to mate him with his intended missus right now she'd eat him for breakfast....literally!
Thanks GP. I shall concentrate on building the little fella up for his big moment |

usually, males at 18 months are more than capable of breeding. As for her eating him, unless we are talking Kings, its highly unlikely. |

good point mike, i think of my CB09s as 2 year olds when really they weren't much more than 18 months!
i'd just keep a close eye on a pair that were a bit mismatched in size, the drive to breed is usually greater than the drive to eat |
