So i just picked up my new corn snake on the weekend, and the previous owner was feeding him 2 whites a week.
I'm looking at weaning him back to one a week but not sure how to do it.

the pet shop told me to just do it, but then followed up by saying his more likely to nip if he is hungry.

just looking for advice on how to do it right?

(BTW, he is 2 years old, no where near fully grown, but from everything I've read he doesn't need 2 a week)

Thanks :)

how big is the snake (length and weight)? how often was he being fed and on what size mice?

i'd agree with the pet shop that IF its appropriate, just make the change but a permanently hungry snake can be a nippy/stressed out snake......

havent got a chance to measure or weigh him yet. (the previous owner never touched him, so his really jumpy)

but he is a few inches longer than his 2 foot tank. and only skinny. maybe a bit thicker than an 20cent coin (euro)
he was being fed twice a week, i picked him up on saturday and he had been fed that day, and he was on adult whites. i dont know how he was swallowing them.

if he's underweight i'd personally feed 1-2 small prey items, prolly small mice, every 5 days

Just a note, don't worry about the colour of the mouse - that has nothing to do with the size. My mouse supplier has a range of sizes, all with a different name (like fluff, small, medium etc) and usually all of them are white. Occasionally they have black ones but they are still sold as fluff, small, medium etc. The lady at the rep shop did say that occasionally a snake won't like a colour change but both of mine haven't minded.

we got 6 fluffys from the pet shop. he is eating them fine. under 2 minutes.

i'm going to try him on the next size up this week and see if he is keen or not (i dont think theres anything between fluffy and mouse is there?) - if not there is still the fluffys in the freezer.

There is they are called hoppers, although not many petshops sell them. You could ask for the smallest small mice and see if he can take them.

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

i got the next size above the fluffy. but its huge. atm his had 3 feeds with just 1 fluffy and is doing fine.
i got some scales this week and weighed him.
he is 2 years old, 99 grams, and about 2 foot long. (I am trying to sort the photo to measure him, but my phone and computer arent friends)

I'll look online for the size in between.

he also shed today. and ate fine while he was blue. he was even begging to be taken out ever day. I had just put him back in the tank, 5 mins later i walked past to look and he had shed. cheeki little bugger.

will get photo's up soon with his new skin and now his tank is all finished :)
