Tis a good idea to scrub them with a 10% bleach solution then bake for a couple of hours to kill off any remaining bugs. |

As long as you bleach and bake it the stuff from the garden should be ok. Lots of us on here use wood that we've treated ourselves. |

I'm just lazy so any wood I get for the snakes will be from the pet shop! |

You're not a pain! If you don't ask how can we help? I have no idea what 180 on a fan oven is!!! I've got a Rayburn and it only has low, medium & high settings. Just use a low temp, that will be fine. |

I think 180 on a fan oven is a bit high I did mine on 100 for 2 hours.

I use branches from an apple tree I butchered for some nice branches.
To treat them I first strip all the bark off, cut off any twiggy bits, sand down any rough/shap edges, I then stick it in boiling water and then take it out and attack it with a scrubbing brush to make sure there is nothing on the surface. I then stick it in the oven (fan) at 100 degrees for an hour for thinner branches and longer if its thicker, I aim to completely dry out the wood and kill off any bugs.
I don't like using bleach but thats just me and as a weak solution won't harm your snakes if it is suitably rinsed off. |
