Tis a good idea to scrub them with a 10% bleach solution then bake for a couple of hours to kill off any remaining bugs.

As long as you bleach and bake it the stuff from the garden should be ok. Lots of us on here use wood that we've treated ourselves.

I'm just lazy so any wood I get for the snakes will be from the pet shop!

You're not a pain! If you don't ask how can we help? I have no idea what 180 on a fan oven is!!!
I've got a Rayburn and it only has low, medium & high settings. Just use a low temp, that will be fine.

I think 180 on a fan oven is a bit high I did mine on 100 for 2 hours.

I use branches from an apple tree I butchered for some nice branches.

To treat them I first strip all the bark off, cut off any twiggy bits, sand down any rough/shap edges, I then stick it in boiling water and then take it out and attack it with a scrubbing brush to make sure there is nothing on the surface. I then stick it in the oven (fan) at 100 degrees for an hour for thinner branches and longer if its thicker, I aim to completely dry out the wood and kill off any bugs.

I don't like using bleach but thats just me and as a weak solution won't harm your snakes if it is suitably rinsed off.
