I was down at my local rep shop today and someone brought in a non feeding boa, the shop owner takes in non feeders and helps them back onto food. Anyway this boa was near lifeless, he turned it over to check its belly and it didnt even try to right itself. Its mouth was white inside and its breathing was laboured.

He asked a few questions and then the apparent source of the problem was unearthed, the guy had a 5 foot viv and a 60 watt bulb and was getting temperatures approx 20 degrees but he didnt use his thermometer. It was so cold it hadn't been able to eat, it got annemic and because he was so weak it had an RI and was showing signs of scale rot. The rep guy had to say he couldn't take him as he needed urgent vetinarian attention, and would take him once the vet had seen him, and once he got the medicines etc.

It made me SO mad, I had to bite my tongue, but seeing a huge boa so ill through nothing short of neglect made my blood boil. I just hope he took the advice and takes it to a vet ASAP and properly heats the vivarium.

Poor thing. It really makes you despair at the amount of people who get a pet without having the slightest idea how to look after it properly.

I hope the snake survives but I don't hold out much hope of the owner getting it the proper treatment if he let it get to that state in the first place, surely he must have realised something was wrong months ago. The he tried to palm it off to someone else instead of just taking it to a vet himself.

Some people make me so angry!

The rep shop was absolutely right to refer the owner to a vet, without a vets care it would have died. I know nothing about who the owner was other than his stupid pointy beard.

To be honest, that Boa was a gonner, I've never seen a snake go limp and unresponsive (behave) like that

didnt read it properly, the shop should contact rspca on owner to investigate, cos if that what he let his boa get into, what about if he has other pets

i hope it has gone to the vet for treatment or to be put down, which ever is going to be painless and easier on the boa,

RSPCA doesn't exist in Northern Ireland. We have the USPCA (Ulster Soc...) but its nowhere near as good.

I actually (and I don't say this everyday) hope that they put the snake to sleep, it was clearly suffering. In fact I think it was already past the point of suffering. It was in a bad way. If I ever see the guy out of the shop I didn't want banning from I'll show him suffering, lol.

I personally don't condone violence.
But it would pretty much be worth going to court over.
Give him a taste of his own medicine so to speak.
