Just had a lengthy conversation with my vet who is looking after Patrick. They say they can worm him with no further testing as results have come back inconclusive. They recommend Panacur which she says should be administered for 3 consecutive days which means 3 trips to the vet at £35 for day 1 then £20 for each further day, £75 just for worms!!  The other option is an ivermec injection only administered the once. The third and worst of all is PTS.

I'd personally go for the one injection. Less stress and I assume it's cheaper? PTS is a bit extreme for worms  |

Right, I am not that experienced in snake keeping and Patrick is not eating so I would have to open his mouth and give him the dose myself and basically I wouldn't know how to. He is mildly agressive. I really don't want to PTS but if I can't worm and the vet can't then it may be an option as I am very very short of funds. If the worming don't work the vet says she would have to do xrays, bloods etc and thia would cost ALOT. The only other option would be to find him a home with someone willing to take him on and treat his problem which does not seem right. If someone can give a crash course on force worming then I am all ears and will certainly give it a go.
The ivermec injection concerns me as she said its not known if it works that well and I have read cases of snakes dying after being treated with it. |

Are you seeing a specilist rep vet?the vet should show you how to administer the panacur yourself,my vet has given me a course of injection to do myself at home so drops are easy,just be aware some vets are out to charge you for anything they can.
As for your snake not eating,how much weight has it lost,snakes are designed to not eat for long periods of time and it could just be that time of year. |

| He has not eaten for 10 weeks and is losing weight as well as passing small amounts of poop frequently with some blood and its really really smelly! He has lost 34 g in less than 4 weeks. I would be grateful if you could look at my post in the general keeping section regarding disinfecting. |

Sounds like he's a very poorly snake T^T I really feel for you!
Panacur is easily accessible for purchase online for a lot less then the vets sell it for, so if you're willing to try the force-feeding method, you'll save yourself a lot of money I think. As for trying to force-feed, do you have someone willing to help you? If you use a syringe, you should be able, with someone holding his body still, just behind the head and further down the body, to force the end of the syringe into his mouth and just squirt real quick. Of course, it may make him dislike you for a while, and with already being mildly aggressive you may get snapped at, but that is so much better then potentially having him put down!! Worms seriously shouldn't be something that a vet would put down for! They can be so easily treated, with the right stuff! |

| That is a fair bit to lose over a month and with the other symptoms there is very likely a problem for him not eating and would imagine its something other than worms because of the blood,just ask the vet to show you how to give the drops. |

| if you cant do it, ill find time to come and help with whatever you need. it seems extreme to pts if it is worms but i understand your position...ill do whatever i can to avoid that happening. like i said, if you want, you get the stuff, ill do the feed. ive not done it before but ive recently seen it done and been talked through it and i have done proper hyperdermic injections in snakes too. |

| Well, I will be taking him to the vets next week and will worry about paying at the end even if the gas and water board have to wait for their bills to be paid. That it such a kind offer Ben and I really do thankyou from the bottom of my heart. I will keep your kind offer in mind incase it does not work out at the vets, they are not specialists but do have a specific interest in snakes. Fingers crossed and everything else. |

| Your vet is a bit of a cowboy, and would clearly like you to spend a lot of money with him. A course of panacur would cost you about 5 quid, to do yourself. I am not overly convinced that there is a big problem. Bloody Poos, a lot of mine do that when they been fed rats. 34g in a month, yeah its a bit, but its not huge amounts, after all its still brumation time, they 'should' be down, maybe he is, but because his temps are up his metabolism hasnt slowed enough, not feeding for a a few months, then sporadically at best is going to cause quite rapid weight loss, and generally, the more weight they have, the faster to lose it to begin with, same with people. |

Force feeding with a syringe is not as easy as it sounds.
I've been doing it for some months to a lizard and making sure that there are no air bubbles going down is VERY hard to to.
Plus most people aren't to happy with having to stick prey items into a liquidiser. |

| Putting a prey item into a liquidiser would not be a problem if thats what was needed. Its the force feeding i'm not keen on. Mike has been giving me loads of advice (thanks Mike) as well so fingers crossed its nothing too serious. Will be holding off going to vets at the moment. |
