Hi I bought a couple of wooden hamster tunnels for the vivs today but it doesn't say what wood they are so I don't want to risk putting them in if there is any chance that they are unsafe, is there any wood that should not be used as toys/decoration.

I believe you shouldn't use pine for snakes.
Not sure of any other types though.

Oak, Beech, Drift and MDF are all safe to use.

Edit: Added some I thought of.

Cant go wrong with a toilet roll tube and you won't worry about throwing them out when they get pooped on.

Though I would say the hamster stuff will be non-toxic as hamsters chew on anything and everything. You could also play detective and if the toy has a label, contact the manufacturer

Good list Graeme but that seems to be more plants than wood.
Is there a list of all safe woods?
I also wouldn't mind a list of all safe sealants and paints I can use.
I have some plans for a future vivarium
