Patrick is a very reluctant/fussy feeder. I have tried mice and rats I have tried different coloured ones. I have warmed them, washed them, brained them and slit the stomach. I have tried feeding at night, at night with covered, during the day, early morning. I took Patrick in 23 october 2010 he had no feeding schedule with him. This is his feeding schedule since I have had him;

11 nov 1 mouse
16 dec 1 small rat weaner
6 jan 1 small rat weaner

He was weighed on 26 novemeber and was 604g I weighed him today and he is 577g. He moves around ok but usually only if I have had him out. I see him drink most days. He does have pooing issues, passing very small amounts every few days sometimes as often as every other day. He has been tested for worms but it came back clear. I really am getting concerned. I took in what I was led to believe was a healthy corn snake but that is not the case. I do not have the money to take him for further tests please don't shout at me. Would it be worth putting him in a small cardboard box overnight with a defrosted rat and see if he eaats? Or should I offer a chick? Any help greatly received.

Forgot to say warm end temps 84f, cool end room temp, hide both ends. Have tried upping temp slightly to encourage eating but no luck there.

sounds a weird one. you've obviously done your research. nothing immediately springs to my mind...he obviously has some kind of all round digestive issue which is the concern. i dont know about you but the vets near me specialise in reptiles and a full check up/ examination is only £28. i completely understand when people genuinly cant afford vets bills. (prismas post mortem was £245!!! so ive had to settle for tissue samples instead @£100!) so dont worry, no ones gunna shout at you lol! i would speak to a local herp vet and see what they can say. if they can do a check up for like £30 its gotta be worth it. sorry i cant be more help, good luck to you and patrick! :)

Thanks Benji, I have 2 vet surgeries very close to me but none specialise in reps. One says that they have 2 vets that have an interest in reptiles and would be willing to look at any of my snakes but it concerns me whether they would even know how to do an examination on one even. I'm just wondering if they would be able to find anything out just by a general examination of him. If I could a check up on him for about £30 I would be happy with that. At least that would be one step in the right direction for Patrick, I really want him to eat something, anything! Its silly I know but I think the world of the silly snake. Been hoping he might suddenly improve but it would seem I am just kidding myself.

the probably wouldnt be able to tell much from the examination alone but when you think of how many cases they will have seen, the exam, coupled with their expertise, may yield results :) dunno how far suffolk is from me but i can say that people come from all over to go to my local herp vet because they are so good at what they do. ill look it up and be right back! :)

right well if suffolk is where i think it is (not a geographist lol) ;) then you are about 2 hours from my vet. If you want an answer about your snake i really cant recomend them enough. itll be the best way to spend 4 hours and £30 on your snake. Both the guys in there are specifically qualified in reptiles and really know their stuff. if you pop down to that vet feel free to pop in and say hi on your way through (im like 5 minutes from there.) If you want the address (for the vet) email me (i dont wanna offend anyone else by advertising publicly) :) again, best of luck! x

Also it might be worth checking what "room temp" is?
My Jaffa went off his food but I realised that as I don't have the heating on much being out at work all day that the room temp was quite low. I know they're supposed to go to the warm end to warm up but he rarely did. I use a mat at both ends now with the cool end set at 22c. He's been fine since then.
