Hi all,just after a bit of advice please
I have finished getting the viv ready for when i get a corn snake,anyway i turned the heat mat on just to check everything was fine etc,anyhow it is holding temp around 21/22 celcius,from what i have read this is at the low end of the ideal temp
Is this ok?
The heat mat is a 14w 11x11 and is underneath the viv
The viv is 18x17.5x18
The substrate is around 1 inch thick where the heat mat is
Is there anything i can do to improve the temp?
Should i get a bigger mat?
Put the mat inside the viv?
Less subsrtate above the mat?
Any advice please as i would like to get a corn soon,been waiting 4 months already lol |

Hi, I don't use vivs but most people put the heat mats inside them and then you only need a thin layer of substrate over it.
That way you should get the temps up no problem. Also you will need a thermostat on the heat mat to stop it getting too hot and burning your corn. |

| i would place the heat mat inside your viv mate, that way you will be able to bring the temp up 29-30 celcius (providing you have a stat attached!) which you you want for the warm end of your viv. |

| Ok thanks,was unsure about putting the mat in as the snake may burrow down and was unsure if it would burn itself,will put the mat inside later tonight and see how it goes thanks |

thats why it is very important to use a thermostat to stop the heat mat over heating and harming your corn. hope it all go's well

Thanks,i have put the mat in the viv so will wait and see what temp it gets to
Am going to be seeing a local guy i have got chattingto who keeps/breeds corns tomorrow(at a animal auction) so may hopfully get a corn within the next month |
