Hello everyone. My corn snake Kaa is currently about 4 months old and roughly a foot long. He is currently living in a small faunarium. he is in no way nervous, and doesnt feel the need to hide a lot unless he has just eaten. He spends most of his time on top of his cave rather than in it, or wrapped round his plant.

I was wondering at what age/size is best to move a corn snake into a bigger vivarium? The faunarium he is currently in does not make him very easy to look at, and isnt very aesthetically pleasing. I obviously dont want to cause Kaa any stress, and wouldnt want to move him into something that is far too big for him. Im just itching to get a big 3ft vivarium that I can make into his own little jungle.

Thanks for your help

My Nimbus is 2ft and still in a faunarium.

He seems to be very happy in it and although I am thinking of moving him up to a 3ft viv soon I don't think I will rush as he seems to like to curl up in the corners of the faunarium or hide under the fake ivy. He does come out everyday to be handled so has a good chance to roam around if he wants to.

it shouldnt hurt to move him into a viv as long as you offer plenty of cover and hiding places. that said, a foot is still quite small so should be fine in a faun for a while yet too. your choice! :)

Spot went straight into a vivarium at only a few weeks and about 11 inches (10grams) and has been totally fine, he has plenty of hides, lots of cover and cardboard tubes dug into the substrate, he can if he wants move around without being seen, from day 1 he was exploring and climbing and burrowing. As long as your vivarium is kitted out properly for a small snake and made escape proof especially round the doors (they can escape through the small gap between the two pieces of glass) then its unlikely that you'll have a problem and should any problems occur you always have the faun as an emergency backup setup.

heres a thought! get the faun and place it inside the viv with the top off. secure the viv and if kaa chooses to go and explore the viv and settles in there you know your golden! kind of like a more in depth process of what is done to acclimatise goldfish lol!

Thanks for all the help people, I could definitely kit out a viv easily enough. Ive bought so many hides and extras for his faun that i keep changing them from week to week so he has something new to explore. I cant help myself, i keep seeing new hides that I like lol. I think I will give him another few months of growth, then buy a vivarium and see what he makes of it. If he likes it, that leaves my faun free for snake no.2 :D
