hi bought my wife a corn snake for christmas had it a few days she seems quite happy try to handle her a wee bit every day or 2 just looking for advice of any kind. We called her sookie she is 8 months about 14 inches long and gorgeous have a heat mat 2 hides and a 2 ft by 1.5ft tank. just want to know best way to pick her up and how u know when she is happy to be handled etc |

Hello! Best to leave her a few days to settle in to her new sourroundings, sights and smells other than changing her water and spot cleaning. You should always pick them up firmly but not too hard, you don't want to squash them but you want them to feel secure. They're mainly active in the evening so when they're most active is probably the best time to handle them. You should always have a thermostat for your heat mat too, to ensure your snakes viv is at the right temperature and doesn't run the risk of over heating. Use a digital thermometer to check the right temp as well. Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy having a gorgeous little snake! |
