I have been asked home for xmas and i am wondering if i can take my snake with me? i live in bristol but will be going to birmingham, for a week or so
will it be ok to take my snake with me or will the trip back and forth be too much for him?

thanks :)

If it was me I'd get someone to look after him while I went away, rather than risk putting him under any stress for for the sake of a week. Do you have anyone that could look after him for you?

I personally wouldnt bother taking your snake just for a week, it's quite a long journey that might stress him out.

If you were to leave him, can't you ask someone to just change his water daily? they needn't feed him or handle him if it's just a week

If he doesn't poo in his bowl and you can't find anyone to change his water, giving fresh water right before you go and changing it as soon as you get back should be ok.

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

I've travel my snake a couple of times, as I've not had anyone to look after him, bar this time, when I've come home alone and left him with my boyfriend. He has made the Worcester-to-Surrey trip, and back, a couple of times, and he's been absolutely fine. I travel him in a 4L RUB and at our mid-point stop, give him a water bowl to drink from, then take it out again after he has drunk to ensure that no water is spilt on him during transit. I have to say, he almost seems to enjoy it. Comes out and explores whilst we're driving (it is a 3 odd hour drive) and then goes back into his hide once he's assessed the happenings. After, he's still docile as anything and quite happy to be handled and fed once placed in the residence we're staying at.

I can't say that this will be the case with all snakes, and it is my own personal experience with Ripley. He's such a laid back dude anyway, its not surprising he's not stressed by the happenings. The two newbies have been on a train and in a car, and both seemed fine, but will be experiencing their first 3 odd hour trip back home with me tomorrow.

All I can say is if you have someone who CAN and is WILLING, its probably for the best, but if you really can't, or don't feel comfortable, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle, if your snake is calm and laid back. A more skittish fella, or one that isn't particularly fond of changes may find it more stressful, but I've not yet experienced any form of stress reaction from Ripley in the trips me and him have to go through occasionally.

Of course, don't take what I say as golden, I'm a nobody here really, in comparison to some of the people here who can give you advice, I can only go with my own experiences ^^''
