So, I’m in my final year in school, 6th year. Every year in my school, the fourth years put on a fashion show (i did it too!) . It does be quite a large affair! Weeks are spent collecting sponsorship, building the catwalk, organising clothes from shops, etc. And each year it is themed. This Year’s theme is ‘’Circus’’ and i was approached today by one of the teachers involved. She somehow knew that i keep snakes, and she asked would i be wiling for them to be used in the introduction for the show. Now i told her that they were far from Boa Constrictor sized, but she didnt seem to mind! I’m not sure on the details but i think she would like one of the girls to walk down the catwalk with them on her or in her arms, to open she show. What do you guys think? Obviously im not going to give them to anybody that i havent vetted beforehand. Because i do NOT want any incidents! Im just wondering how they’d react for the two nights of the show. With the music and the lights and stuff. I think they’d be fine, they’re both VERY chilled! And i’d be there the whole time. I’ll get more info tomorrow regarding exactly what they want them to be doing, and let you guys know. Whats the initial opinion?

Hmmm... personaly i would'nt let my snakes as im way too over protective with them. If you think your snake might be stressed out by doing this, is it worth it? but its up to you as you will know your snakes better than any one else :] |

Depending on how relaxed my snake was i might consider it. If there the kind of snake that will not try and do a runner (or slither) that is.
Although first I'd cirtainly see how they react to that kind of handling and situation. If there is any way you could replicate the environment perhaps. I know that my corn is ok with groups of people and flashing light (from my camera, i hate auto flash) Put on some loud music and get a few people waving torches around while strutting around your room perhaps. Sound silly but its could give you an idea of how they might react. |

Hmm... I would never do it... I wouldn't risk loosing them, and that we can see happens from time to time even with experienced owners... Snakes are never to predict, even the most calm snake can get freighted or get enough. And if the girl holding them get scared and they get away under a show, I simply can't imagine how you would succeed in finding them...
Not to sound negative, but I simply don't think it's worth it. As said I wouldn't, and therefore must say I think it's not a very good idea... But I can also see it from the "shows" view that it would be exiting... but the snakes come first :) |

No from me, I think it'd be far too busy, all those smells of different deodrant could even skitz a very docile snake.
Well done for asking, I'd do it on one condition, I had a RUB set up (basic basic - just newspaper heatmat and stat) he could go back in after doing (my allowances) one or two parade down the catwalk things. |

Thanks guys, these are exactly the concerns that i have in my mind! Like i said, im not sure exactly what is wanted from them. If its a case of having them displayed at the entrance in their vivs then of course i have no objections. However, i'll be very wary if they are needed in the ACTUAL show. I can't imagine what i'd do if they fell due to the stupidity of somebody else! Of course i'd be bringing them in a rub with a hide and heat mat and some of their substrate so they could chill out after the opening. (IF they go, and it's a big IF!) I might consider bringing them for a rehersal some day next week, pre-lights and pre-sound. It would be cool to show them off! But i think i'll just say no.... They're my pals and i'd be really really REALLY angry if anything happened!
I wanted to see peoples opinions, to see if i was being a hypochondriac, but now i know im not :) |

i personally it might be all to hectic,i have taken some of mine into my little girls class but that was a calm and quite environment.the last thing you would want is a model getting tagged on the cat walk, that wouldnt give snake keeping a good reputation.Maybe it might be ok if they could lower the music and light just for that section,up to you at the end of the day though. just a taste of what happens when you mix models+snakes and lights

Yeah great points, also I think if the snake got loose, many wouldn't mind tramping on our dear pets (Just thinking how others can react to snakes, and especially loose ones ) |

All very good points have been brought up Katie. On the one hand I can see that you would be very careful about who it was that handled your snakes, what the situation was and, of course, it would be great PR for snakes (if they behaved )....but for me there is too much risk of something going wrong - of my snakes getting stressed by being handled wrongly or too much, of them escaping....a viv being knocked over or something like that. I know that they would be under your control at all times but, in that situation, you cant control everything and everyone....and the worst thing would be some idiot who would think it funny to let the snakes loose to scare people , and I am sure there are some lads at your school who would think that way!
Obviously it is your decision at the end of the day....but personally its not something I would put my snakes through, not even Kellog and he is a very laid back, calm adult.

As with Lee, I have taken snakes into school before, but I don't think I'd allow them to be paraded in a show, too much that could go wrong. |

Personally, I wouldnt allow my snake to be paraded around, alot of things can go wrong The 'model' might be focused on the wrong thing, trying to strut her stuff lookin like britney, then bam mr snakey falls off her arm, bites her or the funniest outcome possibly craps up her arm. And like kellog said, there are idiots about who will find it hilarious to do something, well, idiotic. You would also need to consider how you'd set up a temporary viv there and stuff, I'd find that really impractical. but of course it is your choice what you do.

I don;t see what's wrong depending how long the intro is and if whoever is going to be holding it can actually handle it properly and your close by.
That snake bite thing is funny XD I love how it eye's up her arm like food. |

UPDAAAAAAAAAAATE! So good news, i going to SAFELY show off my two gorgeous snakes :) I was talking to that same teacher today, and i said that i didnt want them handled, because i would end up killing somebody if anything happens. So i agreed to drive them up myself (leaving them in their big viv) And they're going to be displayed inside the foyer where they are selling tickets. The blueish lighting that i have will look good with all the decorations surrounding it. I'm bringing Jim the beardie too. This way, only i will be handling the snakes (if i choose to take them out at all) and i'm gonna put a lock on the door, despite the fact that i'll probably be sitting there the whole time haha.
There's really no safety risks here, and im pretty happy that i get to show them to people. My teachers/friends are always horrified when i mention them.
It's not till the middle of november, plenty of time to get the glass polished up :) |

Sounds like a good plan :) I think it would be cool if you were handling them and people could see them as they brought tickets and stuff Thats a whole lot safer than parading it down a catwalk or whatever :) |

Sound idea, just make sure no one is charging around the foyer or tapping on the glass, and I'm sure it'll go fine. |
