Hi, I am planning on getting a corn snake soon. I have heard they make great pets and corn snakes are the easiest pet snake to keep. |

hi and welcome, yes corn snakes are hardy souls but this doesn't mean you can take shortcuts on their care and husbandry. they are easy snakes to look after as long as all their needs are met. |

Hi and welcome Take a look at the caresheet and the 101 posts. They should answer most of your questions. Have you decided on a morph yet? |

Not much really... they dont need walking or playing with all the time like a dog, or cleaning up after all the time like a bird or something. Spot clean daily (but they dont poop every day anyways), check water and temperatures, theb have a bit of a cuddle! Feed them once a week (or more/less, depending on age & size) then leave them alone for a couple of days... and thats about it |

Hi Adam, it is really good that you have joined us, especially as you have done it early enough to research whether a corn snake is the right pet for you! This is a great forum with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also get lots of fun and friendship . I am not sure how much information you already know about corn snake keeping, so sorry if I am repeating information you already know....but it is better heard twice than not at all.
You have already been guided to the best places to look, here and in your other thread. Am glad you found the Care Sheet helpful. Also have a look at Your 1st snake and Setting Up A Hatchling Corn Snake - My 101 is definitely required reading.
All of these will give you a good idea of what you will need to get before you get your snake and then you can get an idea as to how much that is going to cost....and also what is involved with looking after it. Figs was right with what she said about what they generally need, daily changing of water and spot cleans of viv, handling as much or as little as you want to (I try and handle my 2 every day for about 20mins - they are adults - except for the 48hrs after feeding them and when they are getting ready to shed). You also need to do a full clean of their vivs every month/6 weeks. The other thing to take into account is the cost of mice and substrate, extra equipment in case your heatmat or thermostat fail and vet bills. These arent scare tactics Adam, just trying to make sure you are fully informed before you make your decision .
You will find that there is a large amount of conflicting information out there about corn keeping – on the internet, in books, etc. Even on here you will find that people have different opinions.....but at least you have a place to ask what you need to know and get the answers from experienced owners. Then you can decide what to do with what you are told.
Unfortunately a lot of us have found that many pet shops cannot be trusted with what they are telling you . I know that I double check anything I am told on here. On this forum no question is regarded as a silly question....it is much better asked and answered, you will probably find others who want the info too! First place to look is in the top right hand corner of the screen where there is a search button....type in what you are worried about and see if you can find an answer. I know you can get swamped with different topics including what you are searching for, so it is a bit daunting but worth a look. If you cant find the answer you are looking for then dont hesitate to ask!
Unwritten forum rule - pics as soon as possible! This link will help - How to - Post images using photobucket
Herriotfan has given you a good warning!! Corn snakes are definitely addictive.....and yes, the majority of us have stood up, said "hello my name is ****, I am addicted to corns........! And I am proud of it!" You are thinking about starting down that corn path so be warned!!
