do they leave a bump in her belly after she has swallowed them? [/quote]
No there is hardly a lump in her when they have gone down, I'm just a bit nervous about giving her the next size because her head is not very big |

As long as the mouse isnt more than one and a half times the snakes body at it's thickest part they will usually be fine. If it's not leaving a bump then it sounds like it might be time to move to a fuzzy. Have a look at this thread, this is my tiny 19g corn who has the smallest head and skinniest neck but he took the fuzzy no problem

Thanks Louise I guess I will just have to be brave and try it. How much and how often do you feed a bigger mouse like that? |

ok thanks a lot for your help I will try, i was worried we weren't feeding her enough but looking through some of the other posts she is a good weight at 26g at 19 inches so I guess the bigger mouse will satisfy her for longer |

Excise courses work very well. This is my personal favourite as the snake seems to be more willing to do this. I empty the viv and put a load of toilet tubes in it for explorations and this way, they can slither through and climb on them. Rocks, tables, vines also work nicely. You may have to change the objects of give them new and different smells as they may loose interest after the first few times.
Been collecting toilet roll tubes for a few weeks and i finally put them in Silvers vivarium this morning. He's rarely up and about during the day but everytime I go into my bedroom I see him half in and out of different tubes! :D
Very very good idea, thank you! |

Ok Silly question time again, sorry, just picked up our new boy today, he is 3 yrs old and weighs 782g, his scales dont overlap you can see white between them. Is he ok or overweight? The shop said he is eating a x-lrg mouse every 7 days. Thanks |

wow, that is overweight. an adult corn should be eating about every 10 days. my male that i have had 3 years was sold to me as a cb08 and now weighs 450 grams and everybody has told me he is either over weight which he is not, or is not 3 years old, and is older, so to me yours must be overwight or be way over 3 years old, and even at that 782grams is very heavy for a corn

if you get a pic of him up then we can tell you how big (overweight if he is) then we can tell where to go from there. a pic of him from above is best |

doesnt look to overweight actually, when he turns round and goes back on himself so his body bends, does his skin fold like it is fat?? as he doesnt look overwight that much, i would just move him to feeding every 10 days instead of 7 days and see how he gets on |

great topic. weighed my snake for the first time the other day, as i am always worried that it is under weight. still unsure, as i could not measure the length accurately. she/he was not playing ball. But decided by her shape that it could do with putting on a few grams. |

Every 7 days is a bit much for an x-large mouse so it could make him fat eventually. He looks like he's a bit chubby, bit not drastically over weight. You could easily drop his feeds to like 1 large every 14 days and he would be fine. |

I'd take her off chicks all together, they are useless as food! And use mice instead. I'd get her on a normal feding routine for adults such as 1 large every 2 weeks and see how it goes from there. |

Okay, I think Holly may be a chubber. She's over 4 years and over 5ft long, and 850odd grams. She doesn't have any tires, and doesn't appear to have any white between the scales. She's still a U shape, but you can squidge her a little bit. She is a big corn snake, as in, she looks in proportion, she has a big head lol
Previous owners were feeding 3 large mice every week, and I've now downgraded her to 1 weaner rat every 2 weeks (doesn't even touch the sides, she inhales the things). She was never taken out and handled in her previous home, and she's now out every possible day with me, and I make her do some work (climbing, stairs, reaching, that sort of thing'.
Any suggestions as to a target weight, or anything I can do regarding feeding and exercise? I'll try get a full body shot, but it hard fitting her in the frame as she doesn't like to curle up, she likes to go zooming lol! |

I'd just say maybe rat weaner every 3 weeks if your going to use them, every 2 weeks on rat weaners is how my guy got so many tyres! I know each snake is diffferent though. |
