i got a corn last weekend and handled it for the first time today but she is very nervous and timid, can someone give me help in how to pick her up from her tank if she is coiled up or in a corner without making her scared. and any tips to make her less timid and nervous. cheers |

Put your hand infront of her so she can identify you when you go to handle her, you can 'scoop' her up, and she will just get used to you. Make sure it's quiet when your trying to handle her, no quick movements and stuff either. I used to lay my hand in the tank, he'd come and sniff it, then crawl on me, you just need patience. She's tiny and your mahoosive, so It's understandable that she's timid :) Patience is a virtue my friend! |

I think there is no way to not scare her, your best bet is just to increase handling in length of time and how often gradually, most hatchlings tend to be that bit more nervous from what Ive seen, it will always be scary for a snake to be lifted, you just have to try to take it easy and be gentle. :) Tiffany-x |

thanks for the tips ive noticed earlier today that she has burrowed under her plant thingy (no wonder why i could never find her) so when i handled her for the first time earlier today i had to take the whole plant out to even find her, and of course she was there coiled up barely visible |

Yes, as above, it's terrifying for them - and for us! At that age they're wriggly little bootlaces - BUT, the worst time is the first few moments of picking up - it's really uncanny how they calm down in your hands, and you and the snake will gain confidence together.
A good while back I read a tip which seemed so sensible - the advice was, when handling a nervous snake, always wait until it is calm before returning it to the viv - in other words let your encounter with the snake end on a calm note.
You have my sympathies - when I first started owning and handling I shook like a leaf - even when I got my little royal after over 9 months of snake owning, the first time I offered him the mouse on the tongs, I didn't have to waggle it - my hands were doing that for me!
All the best! |

I was nervous at first with Izzy but we both soon got used to each other. Look up some videos of people getting bitten by huge pythons; I'm sure it will put your mind at ease when you look at your little snake! |
