Hi All,
I followed all of the advice given on this forum and set up my faun as per littlemicks post we got our snake home when the temp was 28.5 - 29.2 after a couple of hours the snake was very active in the faun we never handled the snake for a week(which was difficult) after seven days I tried to feed it and it took a pinkie within a minute in a seperate feeding rub. We did not handle the snake for a further 48hrs however I have now been handling the snake in the evening for around 5 minutes for the last 6 days usually the snake is coiled up in the hide when it comes to handling time I slowly move my hand to the side of the snake and the snake will come towards my hand but when I try to pick it up he moves very fast away from me around the faun as if trying to escape. When he is handled he seems to calm down very quick and moves inbetween my fingers slowly and smoothly is this initial flight of escape normal for hatchlings?
When the handling session is over when I try to put the snake back the snake tries to get out. We have named the snake cody but the pet shop could not tell me it,s sex as he told me that to probe or pop a hatching could harm the snake.
Any advice would be welcome on getting a 4 week old hatchling out of a faun without a bit of a chase please.

Your snake is probably just taking some time to get used to you, try handling him more often, still for 5 minutes but maybe once more each day? This will help to get it used to you picking him up. Imagine a huge hand coming into your home and trying to pick you up, its scary to begin with. Id imagine the little snakie will get used to it soon. Good luck.

our hatchies the same, very fast lol ours gets very hyper if you try get it out, but calms once in my hand, and they its a struggle to put her back when its bed time haha, i have mine out about 3 times a week for around 10 minutes, i dont think theres anything you can really do to try calm it down when you initially get it out, i think tiffanys right tho id poo my pants if a huge hand came towards me haha! as it gets bigger and used to you it wont be as jittery, our rescue corns about a year and half and acted the same the first few times we got her out, very jittery and fast like a hatchie, but now its used to us its very calm. Im sure yours will calm down in no time :)

Some snakes will eat when blue, some won't. Some owners don't offer food; some do. Personally I offer food at this time - sometimes they take it, sometimes they don't. They're all different!

Sorry - edit, and not logged on fully - meant, if snake's due a feed, and blue, personally I offer feed on feeding day, even at risk of wasting mouse.

He had his second shed on Weds and I offered a pinkie on Thurs which he took feet first.I handled him for the first time today since he went into blue and he was flicking out his tongue but just stayed very still once he had wrapped him self around my fingers for we stayed like this for 5 mins and then I put him back and he went straight into his hide.

Its nice to know my Ruby isn't the total loon I thought she was after reading about yours, lol. Ruby is 2 months old tomorrow and I've had her almost 3 weeks and today was the 1st time she didn't hide when I got her out but she does still leg it about then stops for a few mins then does it all over again. I've been getting her out everyday for about 5 mins but after having her out I get my sons snake out who is so calm and he just loves to go through your fingers, but then he is older, I still love my Ruby more, looiness and all, lol.

Aww bless her, they are like little racers, not corns, when they're babies - I remember my yearlings being like that and now they are really sedate ... they look at me as if to say, 'omg, it's that scatty human again!'

There are times I wish they were wild little bootlaces again!

I just brought three snakes today and i'm so suprised how quick they actually are.
They are now in there rubs and i've already seen two off them drinking water.
I cannot get enough of watching them. One seems shy while the other two are exploring.I love the way there tongues flicker. The motley loves the aspen, burrowing down and then emerging in some random place.
I'm so pleased i brought hatchlings as well.
I brought a female motley and two Candycanes, one of each sex.

They are called Brighton Hove Albion

The good old pythons eh.I looked into alot of snakes ie Hoggies/Carpets/Milks etc but decided to plump for corns instead. My lovely girlfriend isn't to keen on them mind.As long as they don't escape shes says
I'm forever watching them. You can see they are looking for an escape route out.Every nook and cranny is being expected closely by them.

Izzy still goes nuts when I touch her in the viv! She's fine when you handle her but as soon as she's back in the viv if you touch her she zooms off! Poor little scaredy thing!

Your little hatchling will get used to you in time. Some take longer than others. You could just scoop him/her up instead of offering your hand. They do slow down a bit as they get older, although by then you'll be handling more often and be much more confident. It will all turn out ok in the end, just give yourselves time.
