Hi, Meg, I use large aquarium vine type foliage from that big pet supermarket - they sell similar in the rep dept but the aquarium stuff is better value. Wilkinsons used to sell really good fake ivy and stuff but don't seem to now

The most sterile climbing branch stuff to use is that exo-terra vine or reptivine - it's actually really good because you can twist lengths together and bend it to requirement ... I screw small ring bolts, vine eyes ... what are those things called? Like a circular metal bit with a screw attachment - like a hook only in a circle so there are no sharp bits - and secure the foliage/vine with thick cord. Trouble is ... expense...again ... Worth it though.

Ah yes, those fixing things - B&Q sell them as 'screw eyes' (charming name!) You will need an awl or similar - or something sharp - to pierce a hole in the wood of the viv - good idea to have Tangoo out of the way - then you can fix the little gismos wherever you want to get a good effect with your foliage/branches - it gets creative!

I have them trained all over the walls of the vivs - the snakes love them! And thick substrate beneath in case they fall, but they're pretty agile.

Hi again, we overlapped - my snakes love to climb - think all corns are arboreal! Actually I think it's good for them - all that exercise, muscle tone, it's like us going to the gym.

(Uh, says she in her armchair, glass of beer to hand ...)

Have just been trying to find receipt - and can't. B&Q sell them in their hardware aisle in small plastic bags - it's something like a fiver or so for a bag - sorry I can't be more accurate, but they are worth it. Wilkinsons' would be cheaper but I find my local store has run their hardware dept down ... you might be luckier where you live. Good luck!

If there is a dunelm mill near you then get down there for fake plants n stuff. So much cheaper than specific reptile or aquatic stuff. i got 2 vines, 3 no 4 pieces morpani wood, a potted fake fern, and loads of other bits of fake greenery for under 20quid. Website here but to look around on but if you can I would say go and look around. http://www.dunelm-mill.com/

I reckon vine alone would support a corn snake's weight - and the beauty of it is that if you are in doubt you can double it up and twist it into a thicker 'branch' as the snake gets older and heavier.

I would say the only downside of installing all this stuff is that the little dears are bound to feel the need to 'go' all down their pretty new foliage ... lovely!

Another nice thing to have is a straw mouse nest from aforementioned pet supermarket - I hang mine from the ceiling - but I had a near disaster with Shahi, my royal. As you'll know, royals are very shy, especially when settling in. Shahi loves his 'treehouse' and likes to wait there for his mouse. However, a couple of feeds ago I noticed an artificial leaf was a bit near his jaws (he likes to take his mouse and think about it) and stupidly I didn't go in there and move the leaf. It almost got pulled into his mouth with the mouse ... omg! Luckily he let me move it, and he ate his mouse okay, but since then I've been very wary of feeding near artificial foliage. Good argument for feeding out of viv, I suppose! I would prefer him to feed out of his viv, but thought it was less stressful for him to feed in-viv ... lesson learned, I suppose ...

I reckon doubled up - and it looks great all twisted into natural shapes - it ought to. Yes, the mouse nests are from PAH - they might be a bit small for a 4ft snake, but my Saffron is just over 3 ft and she fits nicely into a large one with room to spare.

Or if you've got one of these shops near you: http://www.therange.co.uk I'd recommend them as well.
The 'decorative plant and flower' section in our local place beats dunelm mill prices for the same stuff. Plus the pet section has loads of different stuff that's designed for other animals (fish, rabbits etc) that can be used for reps.
