| There is no set age for this, some may when very young but some may never constrict. |

Mine has always constricted but I know some people on here have adults who never have. It's just an individual snake thing.  |

| I have one snake that strikes really strongly and mice and comstricts them for ages. The other snake just dives for the head and starts munching. I think it just depends on the snake although you can try making the mouse look very alive when your feeding! Just take it by the tail and make it 'walk' around. Then try giving it a little wiggle when the snake strikes for it. Sometimes encourages my lazy one! |

I thought corns never constricted unless the prey was live ... I was wrong! I've seen a video of a hatchling constricting - on the other hand my largest girl who must be 2 years old, has never constricted. Cy the smallest will strike but not constrict, of the three yearlings Spider and Spooky have just started to wrap themselves in knots, and Buffy has been constricting for a while ... one day I fed her in her viv and she dangled down from a climbing branch, struck, constricted and contracted like a spring, and zoomed back up to the viv ceiling like a bungee jumper! (She was fine, by the way, and just went on hanging upside down by her tail and scarfing down her mouse.)
So they can vary. There's a brilliant video on youtube - sorry I don't know how to post links. It's called 'Creamsicle Corn Going Crazy' - if you haven't seen it before it doesn't half make you jump! (It's a young corn feeding in a rub, and the mouse is dead, but oh boy that guy goes into overkill!) |

I have one that will constrict almost everytime, one that constricts when he can be bothered and one that gives a half ****d strike and then just gobbles it up. Sometimes they don't constrict unless they feel they need too, which they don't when your feeding defrost.

It may have been dead, but was it shop bought, i.e frozen and thawed. Or fresh killed.
Fresh killed mice, although dead and cannot injure your snake, but still smells alive because it hasn't been killed and frozen, or had the smell impaired with co2 (which is what they use to kill them)
I remember mikerichards was going to make a video of the difference in reaction between feeding frozen/thawed mice and fresh kill, not sure wether he did though. |

I buy frozen mice and some of my snakes STILL constrict. One once wrapped herself so tightly round the mouse that she couldn't find it and went frantic, trying her jaws on her own skin until she found mouse's nose. I dread to think what she'd be like with fresh killed! |

Erm, i kinda forgot about that one! i will try and remember to sort something out when i get round to feeding them all again!
But, as said, all snakes are different, some will kill it as much as they can, others cant be bothered and just go for the straight feed option |

| When I was feeding Medusa two fuzzies (defrosted) he would always strike and constrict the first one but take his sweet time over the second! He's only on one small mouse now but constricts every time, which is amusing now he's getting bigger and doesn't have as much space to do it! |

| Cheer's for the replies i'm on my 7th feed with my hatchling which is just normally a strike feed but in the last feed it went into sort of half constrict but then just swallowed |
