Hi, everybody. Well, it's a normal (if you can call it that) Sunday here at chateau BATS. I'd stayed up till 2am watching videos of old steam trains on youtube, so I didn't get up till 10, when I opened my eyes and saw my new little royal looking out of his viv, watching the cats. After a shaky start owing to shedding, he's eating well now. His feeding day tomorrow, hope he strikes like he did last time.
Got up. Fed cats, fed fish (2 aquariums and pond), made strong muddy coffee (specialite de maison), took mice out to defrost for corns' feeding day, sat down with laptop on doorstep and flexed my brain with a few silly jokes for this forum ....
Now I'm back on the doorstep, looking out on to the jungle in my tiny backyard and hoping the dahlias don't eat me and having a liquid lunch. Well, can't smoke my pipe till I've fed snakeys because of nicotine risk. Can't have too much liquid either - don't want to be drunk in charge of a mouse!
What are you guys doing? |

3.20 ... Oh boy did I say it was a normal Sunday? I spoke too soon.
Feeding time. No problem, except for my little Miami, who's sporadic at the moment, and Saffron, my butter corn, who's so blue she's more of a margarine corn. So, with it being feeding day for Shahi, my little royal, tomorrow, I thought, bend the rules a little and use up Saffy's mouse.
Shahi was curled up in his tree house, a straw 'mouse nest' attached to the ceiling of the viv amid artificial terrarium leaves. He likes it up there, it's just the right size for a small snake to curl up and pretend he's a big arboreal python, especially as that side still has a towel hanging over it to make him feel more private. I offered him the mouse nose first, with tongs, he struck and coiled, and, as usual, went into deep thought. So I put his towel 'curtain' back down and gave him a few minutes' privacy.
When I checked on him again he was starting to eat his mouse, tail first as usual. Fine, except that I didn't quite like that artificial leaf so close to his jaws... Oh no? Oh yes. Stupidly, I felt that I mustn't interfere, and when, too late, I did, the leaf was disappearing into Shahi's mouth with the mouse ...
OMG!! Well, to cut a long story short, I managed to gently get it out, and he continued to eat his mouse manfully and all is well ...Just hope he doesn't regurge.
But what a thing ... goes to show, you can never be tooo careful - except that I was too careful - I should have gone straight in there and moved the damn leaf.
Stilll shaking ...
And the moral of the story is ... always be alert. This planet needs lerts! |

No, you're not a bad person, just a snake person! We put the snakes' needs first. Anyway, how are those chicks going to end up? Even if they spend a few years laying eggs, unless they're lucky enough to end up in a pet home, they'll be ... well, end up as food of some sort. Sorry didn't notice your post straight away, been a bit of a dramatic afternoon and then someone called and we had tea and biscuits with a biscuit hungry dog. Not being a usual Sunday at all.(Couldn't offer him beer - he had to drive down to Wales!)
What are you other guys doing? Will have to change the name of this thread to the Sunday teatime thread! |

LOL! He's quite a dog! He has been known to visit the opera regularly (his favourite singer is Kathleen Terrier) and he's a journalist - he writes a column in a newsletter for Cwm Penmachno. I kid you not! |

Whoever can get me a genuine Ancistrus Triradiatus that still has the barbs, and is short bristled would be my best friend forever. I've got some other fishies as well, but don't take a great deal of notice of them anymore. They're boring. |

Hi, Stotty01 and Kehhlyr, those sound like some heavy fish - I'll have to google them. Confess to being a complete ignoramus around everything except plecs and loach - but they're not boring (except when I realise I've committed myself to giving them space in the living room that could usefully be occupied by a viv or two ... |
