hello mate, I'll try help you. As am sure everyone else on this forum will do. I just need some answers to these Q's

Is the mat on a thermostat?

How much substrate is over the heatmat?

What size and power rating is the mat?

I wouldn' worry about the fluctuations too much.. but a little bit over 30*C is considered a bit too hot for corns, but the stat maybe just working to get the temps level.

Cheers.

cornsnakenoob, i am assuming you are using a matstat with those fluctuations, make sure the stat probe is sitting on the mat, you can have the thermometer probe at the same place then its just a case of fiddling with the dial on the stat to get the temps set, this wont take 5 minutes may take a while. As i said assuming it is a matstat you are using there may be a range you get but you dont want it hotter than about 30 deg C.

The power rating of the mat is irrelevant unless you are using a dimmer stat.

Well if it's a 4/6W (cant remember the smallest mat), maybe why, I myself, as others have on this forum, had problems of fluctuations and not heating enough up with smaller powered mats.
