Hi. I’ve had my corn for about a year now, I inherited him from one of my GF’s kids. He hadn’t had the best of life’s and hadn’t been looked after very well.

Any what he been with me for a year and not wanted for anything, I’ve tried to be friendly to him, but he is the most aggressive snake ever. He will strike at any opportunity even if you’re the other side of the glass. I’ve tried leaving him alone, slowly introducing myself over a period of weeks etc etc, but to no avail.

The last 6 weeks or so he has had a few issues with his skin, he looks like he’s had a partial shed. Its like not all the skin has come off, so he looks a little tatty. I’m not sure if this is contributing to his bad mood, but TBH he was in a bad mood before this.

He is certainly the worst pet I’ve ever owned and I’m now at the point where I’m considering giving him to someone with more experience than me.

i think but am not 100% on this but you just have to handle, i have handled a friends of mine snake which was a nasty bugger would even bite the glass when you looked at him (sounds like yours) and my friend was scared to handle him.

i just stuck my hand in and grabbed snakey regardless of him biting away, didnt hurt atall felt like smoeone grabbong you with their finger and thumb and just held him.

he stopped biting after 2 mins and wriggled so after 10 mins i put him back, left it an hour and did it again. i did this a few times over a few days, and he is better now but still seems to want to get you when you go to pick him up but is manageable and hopefully over time will improve.

Thanks for the reply.

Mine can strike the glass so hard he dislocates his jaw and has a crocked mouth for a couple of minutes.

What is his setup like? - How is he housed?
- What temps are you keeping him at and what are you using for heating?

How often do you try to handle him?

Any photos of him and his setup?

He is in a 4 foot viv with a heater mat and a heater lamp at one end the temp is set to 28. There is a fluorescent light on a timer. There is a hollowed out log hide at the hot end of the viv with another large log hide at the cool end of the tank the substraight is beach chippings. He has a water dish in the cool end and a big dish in the middle that I feed him on, which I occasionally fill with water so he can have a bath.

He is I guess about 5 foot long, there were some picture on this site somewhere, I will see if I can find some.

just had a look at your pics - hes a stunning snake..
did you move the stat probe from on the wall to on or under the substrate? might help you get better readings of the temp and maybe if its too hot cool it down for him,
with the handling it really is a case of just biting the bullet and going for it, if you dont want him to make contact with your skin when tagging then maybe get some gloves and wear them,
once hes calmed down and realised you aren't a threat to him as he thinks you are he should settle down, he sounds like a big version of our zero..he would launch himself at the faun walls trying to tag me or luke at every opportunity he got..ok he was a lot smaller than your boy but he was blooming scary when he really got going - tail rattling, head flattening the lot! but with a lot of hard work he is now handleable even if he does protest slightly still when we first get him out!
i know its easy to type and easy to say but confidence is the big thing - fake it until you feel it, your snake will be picking up on the fact that you are nervous of him and exploiting it all he can, dont give up on him just yet - hes stunning and when hes calmed down he will be a real gem

Gorgeous snake!

As people have said, you do just have to keep handling him. I have a nasty baby, ok your snake is massive but I have been bit several times by an adult and it doesn't hurt. My little one used to strike at me through his TUB and he would bash the tub. He rattles and musks too but I have seen an improvement of his behaviour, he's still far from perfect though.

Have you tried putting an item of clothing you have worn in the viv? He's either just a really bad tempered snake but even moody corns can be calmed down a bit or he thinks your going to eat him.

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3
