Oh dear mate! Unfortunately I think your pulling did him more harm than good, but it doesnt sound anything TOO serious.. (I am guessing you only did that as a spur of the moment type thing), that snakey cant heal when he sheds,
can you get a picture or two please mate? |

Oh dear sorry to hear that , just check on him to make sure he is moving around ok and has not injurd his spine but if he has hurt him self he will most likely go in to a shedd as they will try to repair them selfs. But if any problems and in doubt just take to a vet better be safe then sorry. |

He will be fine, he was flexing muscles to counteract you pulling him, that's all, remember scales are just that, scales, they are there to protect the skin, a few scratches and creases are not gonna hurt him at all. You would be surprised how much you can pull a snake in that situation. To be honest, you did it right, if a snake dissapears into a hole, just hold on, reasonable pressure and he will let go eventually. One of my boas descided to have a quick nosey under the floor boards a while ago, I caught her tail, to stop her I had to pull almost as hard as I could with arms, whilst bracing and pulling with my legs, that's a lot of pressure!! I still couldn't hold her though. A few sheds and your chap will be right as anything. |

I know it is worrying Paul but corns are amazingly hardy and are made to 'heal themselves' in certain situations, like this one. As has been said, Casper will probably shed and the scales will come right.
I am talking from a bit of experience, not of a snake getting stuck but of Silvesta ripping a new scale when he had a really bad shed. A scale on the top of his head was lifted so you could see the flesh underneath. I put him straight onto kitchen roll to make sure there was no chance of infection (and if you think any of the scratches are deep enough to go through to the flesh then that may be a good idea....my thinking was better to be safe than sorry). He then did an early shed and it was the best shed he had ever done. You could see on the shed skin a mark like a scab where the damaged scale was and there is still a small mark on his head but it is barely noticeable. He is now back to his normal shiny self ....but it was a worrying time from the point of the bad shed and him being injured to his going blue, and then me being paranoid that he was going to shed badly again.
I also have experience of a battle with a snake, having spent over half an hour trying to prevent Kellog going under a piece of furniture....and he won in the end. I knew better than to pull him out, so all I was doing was holding on to him hoping he would give in, but he was so strong I couldnt have pulled him out if I tried and he slowly won, as inch by inch I lost a little bit more of him under the chest of drawers....and all I landed up with was carpet burns on my elbows and a very cross OH!
Yours is a very good warning to members actually....I know I walk around with Kellog round my shoulders and sometimes dont pay as much attention to him as I should.
Just give him time and try not to worry (easy to type, hard to do....I know)
xxx
