Well i've had Eugene since Nov 09 an he's about 18 months old now. He's had 8/9 sheds with me since then, and he's only ever managed about half his body by himself.
He had a few feeding problems recently and lost a bit of weight, and since then he's had 2 sheds. His first was (as usual) broken halfway down his body. However on tuesday i noticed he was in blue, so the water dish went in, and the viv was sprayed twice a day, and Hallelua!!!!!!!!! I woke up this morning to a full shed
I'm sure i've read on here somewhere that you either add or subtract an inch from the shed skin to get a good measurement of him.
Its been a little while since i got some pics of him on here, so will try and sort something out of the next few days. |

You subtract, 10% of the length of the shed. |

You could also try giving him a damp hide, it may benefit more than the misting.
Plus it dosn't increase the humidity of the whole tank. Is he in a viv or a faun? If he's in a faun it may well be more beneficial. |

He's in a viv. I tried a damp hide the 1st 2 or 3 times with no luck. I'd take out his normal hides and put in a sort of lunchbox container with damp moss in, but never worked. Just really glad he's done a full shed this time. |

I am so pleased to hear that Carl. I have had a bad shed from Silvesta only once, and hated it....so would really stress if it happened regularly like it has been with Eugene. But I can just imagine your relief (and surprise) when you found that full clean shed !
I usually only mist with mine and it was never a problem, then after this last bad shed I added the extra water bowl and it certainly did the trick. Had a beautiful full clean shed from Silvesta yesterday (it was was a healing shed, only 5 weeks since the bad shed as he had ripped a new scale on his head as the shed was so bad).
I bet you will be keeping this shed ! Danny is right about you subtracting 10% of the shed skins length to work out the length of the snake, but it is very approximate as the skin stretches and you cant be accurate as to how much. Some people use this to measure their snakes....it is called the Snake Measurer - http://www.serpwidgets.com/Apps/measure.html
How is Eugene feeding now?
Cant wait to see pics of him and see how much he has grown .

Oh yes, i'll definately be keeping this one. I even let my daughter take it into school to show all her friends (coolest girl in school that day she was). lol
He's feeding absolutely fine as well now, i've actually started feeding him on more regular occasions as well. Used to feed him 2 fuzzies every 7 days, but he's back on "the hunt" within 48 hours after his digesting period, so now feeding him 2 fuzzies every 5 days now.
He's actually just had a feed about 10 mins ago. I've got the weekend to myself this week with the mrs at work all weekend, so i'll leave it till sunday afternoon and get some fresh pics of him and get them on here. |
