Middle of the kitchen floor at work. Looked about the same size as Tehya when I got her and she was 6g, so tiny!

Is that a Natrix natrix? we have loads of those over here ans people keep killing them thinking they are Vipera berus (idiots), but i didnt know N. natrix was found on the imperial islands.

Yes, it is Natric natrix Polcher, or the grass snake (sometimes known as the ringed snake). It is a protected species here in the UK.

I must try and put up the pics I have, my OH came across 2 grass snakes mating....it was amazing to watch and he managed to get some great pics.

Lots of people dont see them and you have to be in the right place at the right time....but they are out there to find if you look.

Edited to add - sorry Nadine, got so caught up in answering Polcher I forgot to comment on your gorgeous little find! The band around its neck is so stunning, isnt it....and it is so tiny! Glad it is now liberated and hope it stays well hidden from any horrible cats!
