Well I got Elijah's new viv today, yayyyyyyyyyyy, a month ealier than planned but hey ho. I also got some of his new equipment and decor today, the rest should come tomorrow, 2 months ealier than expected, lol. Oh well.
Have a guess where I got my viv from? Wilkinsons, yep, I didn't even know they did them. And get the price of this £70. What a bargain, most of the prices I have seen are about £120. Mind you though I since ordering and receiving I have seen a marked drop in price lately, so now I am even seeing them for as low as £60. The rest of the gear I got from 888, not gonna big them up too much in this post as I think theyare starting to let me down abit. But here's what I got.

VX36

Habistat Heat Mat 17" x 11" 20, they didn't have any in so they sent me the Ultratherm equivalent without telling me.
Exo Terra Large Snake Cave - to come tomorrow
Exo Terra LArge Water Dish
Exo Terra Large Jungle Vine - to come tomorrow
2 Exo Terra Medium Jungle Vines - got one, one coming tomorrow
Exo Terra Ficus Plant - they sent a Ruscus instead, grrrrr
Exo Terra Laurel Bush
Exo Terra Rock Outcrop Medium.

Aquarium Background from my LFS

I was going to put it toggether this weekend, but I have some prep work to do first s few things to buy. It might not even get done until the end of the month, as I have alreadygone wayyyyy over myanimal budget this month, lol, I spend loads on my Gerbils and Hamsters. I spotted some Java branches in the LRS that have screw fixings on them to fix them to the walls of the viv so I want to get them and drill the holes before I put the viv together.

Well happy though, can't wait until Elijah moves in

If there's a price differences in heatmats, like the one you ordered is more than the one they gave you, make sure they give you that money bud. 888 have let me down as well and I have only ordered once :/ Make sure you tell them abut the wrong plants as well.

You checked all the screws for the viv yet? You think he will be able to escape through the cable access holes?

What's LRS? and LFS? The Java branches with screws are ment for birds ;) you can get ones without screws for reptiles but I bet the bird ones will look ace put in though, makes me what to do that lol please take pictures of your viv when your done.

btw did your viv have the sliver vents?

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

If you already have a VX36 it's just one of them, I just didn't expect Wilkos to do them.

The price is about the same, depending on where you buy from, I have yested it and it works ok, the only thing is the plug is one of those moulded sealed ones, which means I would have to cut the wire and buya new plug if I want to put it through a hole low in the side wall.
All screws present and correct, one of the first things I checked, and yeah I think he could squeeze out the holes, I will be sealing thos up, or using one of my paper plugs, lol, There will also be a background pic sealed onto the back.

LRS = Local Reptile Store
LFS = Local Fish Store

The Java branches are the ones that are normally the reptile ones, just been chopped off to make a flat surface, it has a bolt threaded into it, you drilled a hole in your viv, plonk it through and bolt and washer it the other side, pretty solid, I'm sure there has to be a member or 2 that have done it themselves. I just never seen them sold ready to bolt.

An no, the viv has the round vents , abit gutted about that, theymust be getting rid of the old stock. Never mind.

Ah I see. I was disappointed with my white vents too :/ I was a bit sad that they didn't come with handles too so I bought some sliver ones off ebay.

That is fantastic news Mick, I know how excited you have been about getting this for him and planning what you are going to do with it....Elijah is a very spoiled snake !!

Sorry 888 messed up, have you thought about sending it back and demanding the heatmat you ordered (especially as this one has the added complication of the plug not disconnecting)? I have only dealt with 888 a couple of times and must admit that I havent had the same trouble as others, they were very helpful and accepted the stat I returned and replaced it with a different one. I did ring them rather than email and got a very friendly response....but I know others havent been so lucky with them.

I didnt used to know what LRS and LFS were Sta~ple, until Mick explained them to me....so much easier to put the initials down than write out the full words (but then I write too much anyhow !!).

Elijah must have just passed the 8 months stage I think tomp33. If you checkout this thread you can see how much he has grown from when Mick got him to when he turned 6 months - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9365

Cant wait for pics Mick, and I bet you cant wait to get Elijah moved in....but you certainly have your hands full (and your wallet empty ) with all your animal plans!

Dont forget to seal the viv - I'll have a pokey round my Wilko's then! Got a big old doggie dish for £3 quite pleased with that considering an adult corn can soak it happily.

Pics when done mate, just watch he's not too small to fit through the gap in the doors.

STAPLE - Handles for the doors I presume? Could you throw a lonk in my direction so I have look at them please.

tomp33 - Previous posts may have given the impression that Elijah is youger than he is, he's a CB JUL09, not sure exactly what date, so for all intents and purposes he is 1 year old. He weighs 61g and is about 27" long, I will probably move him in at the end of the month.

Kellog - I was thinking about returning the mat, as I hate it when people rip me off, but the prices are the smae and I was testing it all day yesterday and it runs ok so I will just keep it, I will get my Habistst one later, for now I will just have to run the cable through the outlet, I might even just put the back wall upside down, lol, so the outlets are at the bottom if that's possible.

I also went to Wickes and got a some cable clips, a couple of coat hooks I want to try out and some brass cup hooks just all to help hold things up, I hate put up silk vines with suckers, especially when they fall off and scare the hell out of your animals. Also got my Java branch with screw, £15.99, I didn't actually realise they are made by Exo Terra and Beck's Toys.

Anyways, pics will be up along with a photo 101

Oooh oooh, before I go, was chattin' to Kellog and guess what? I'll have an empty faun

I got these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VIVARIUM-sliding-glass-DOOR-HANDLES-finger-pulls-SILVER-/220563904933?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects&hash=item335aa219a5#ht_717wt_911

They look fab on from a distance.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v237/PurpleStorm/DSC00955.jpg if that helps lol

Mick, I found that the exo terra ones were rubbish and got some like plants from dunhelm mill. They came with like a loop at the top so I cut the loop and threaded it through the cable hole and the plants stay up! Myabe it might be possible to do something like this for your plants?

You have give me an excellent idea on how to keep my probe in place though. And tempted me to get some java branches with screws...

The Exo Terra what are rubbish? I must admit, the Laurel Bush looked wicked on the site but now I have it looks too flimsy especially if the weight of a snake was on it. I will be visiting the DM site though as I want some of their Ivy stuff, I'll browse their other plants as well.

Well..... don't keep me in suspenders, lol. What's the idea? And the branches are brill, I have predrilled 4 holes in the viv, one on each side wall, and 2 on the back wall, one low and one high, I'll be able have upto 4 branches in there, depending on how I change it round at clean up time, and when one is absent I will have a bolt in it's place the same diameter so there are no gaps.. I just siliconed an aquarium background on tonight so that's drying at the min. Don't worry you can't tell it's an aquarium one, lol, so Elijah won't have suddenly turned into a water snake.

They stick on with some really strong doubled sided tape, like industrial strength.

I don't know about the laurel brush, I haven't tried anything cept the ivy's and the ivy has coped with a morbidly obese snake climbing all over them lol

Exo terra ones are nice if you have glass.. I have some I unno what I'm going to do with them really. I suppose I could use those cable clips to hold them on or stick them on the door lol

I might get some cable grips and like fix the probe more neatly along the viv walls is what I was thinking and it might also stop it form moving so much. I think I will have to see how my stone method is holding up thought first

Please take pictures of your viv after, I am really interested in your branches. How thick are they? I've seen like bird ones with bolts but I am unsure if it would hold the weight of a fat snake lol

That's just criminal, it will look weird having an empty faun there , I might have to put it in the attic out of th eway, besides once it has vacated it living spot the space will be filled with an Exo Terra terrariu, for my Treefrogs next year.

I might have to invest in some of those door handles, saves getting finger prints on the glass all the time. Well, so far I have the background all siliconed in, I have all the cable clips, cup hooks and a couple of coat hangers in there ready to hang stuff off, lol. Just waiting for the legs to turn up on Tuesday I hope, I might get some more Java branches as well, both floor mounted and wall mounted and of co**** the Ivy, then I will be ready to set it all up.
