I'm doing some surfing but anyone's experiences would be helpful. I can only seem to find stuff on baby birds but it's not a baby :/
It's head, neck and back are pretty bad... It sits with it it's head curled under it's chest, it looks pretty freaky. We were going to kill it since we thought it had broken it's neck and the RSPCA don't care and neither do other wildlife places near us but when it does walk a little, it odes raise it's head off the ground so were all kind of hoping it's just got a swore neck and it will heal. I would take pictures but it's really horrific. We were all surprised that it didn't die through shock last night since it didn't die of it's wounds.
We have a bowl of water and food for it but it doesn't like to move much so we've been getting a syringe, filling it with water and making it drink like that just to make sure it drinks. However, we haven't seen it eat yet :/ so if anyone has any idea's on how we can do that it would be wonderful.
Is there anyway anyone knows of how we can clean it's wound's so they don't get infected without stressing the poor little thing? I don't want us cleaning the wounds to stress him to death but I don;t want him to die of an infection. Do you think human antiseptic spray would be ok if we don't spray near his head or get a mixture of salt water in a spray bottle and spray the wounds?
I hate dislike the RSPCA and cats so much right now :/
On a random happier note, we have 2 more chickens as they guy said he didn't want them anymore as they weren't laying so they have come to live with us! They are called Sleepy and Buzz (Buzz is bald and looks like it's had a Buzz cut :p) |

il be honest and it may sound harsh but even if you do treat it you have to be prepared for nature to take its course,
but im guessing salt and water would be a better solution to use than human antiseptic but then im no expert, maybe use something you could get into all the nooks and crannies with aswell as a spray? i would suggest a cotton bud but i guess the fibres would come off in the wounds?
feeding wise i honestly wouldnt know - its been ages since i actually fed birds (besides my chickens) so i dont really know what they would eat apart from bird seed and worms..
i hope the little fella shows signs of improving |

| I'd use salt water very gently sprayed on the wounds, this would probably be the least stressful for the poor bird. I would avoid antiseptic spray because they can sting. Sometimes the animal charities just don't want to know, an unfortunate fact I'm afraid. With regard to food I'd say offer some mealworms. If you have a reptile store near you they sell them for lizards but they are suitable for wild birds too. Don't be surprised if the poor little mite can't eat. Try to keep him/her as quiet as possible. It might be an idea to keep it in a very subdued light too. It really doesn't sound too good. I do wish you the best of luck with the little guy. |

| P.S This may sound a little strange but I know some vets who use honey on open wounds because this is known to have great healing properties. If the little guy makes it through the next day or two, with your TLC, maybe you could put a little runny honey on the wounds, once they've had quite a few saline flushes/sprays. |

My friend have me a link to Surrey pigeon rescue and it says I need to mix suagr water and salt into it's water and that antiseptic and tcp is ok so I will be doing it today. I'm going to get my b/f to ring more rescue laces to see if the will take him.
I's looking better but I have just seen the other side of it's head, its horrible I'm surprised it really hasn't died yet. It's completely caked in blood so I'm not sure how I'm going to clean it's head yet.
It's head is still hanging under it's bely when it walks but it is moving about more. I'll try and get some mal worms as well. It seems like it might have had a nibble in the night as some seed is on the floor. |

| Oh I do hope it will pull through. I'm glad you found a pigeon place to get better info. I'm afraid my knowledge is outdated a bit. It sounds really horrible, poor creature. You could also try one of the fat balls stuffed with various nuts and seeds. Most pet supplies and loads of garden centres sell them in their wild bird section. I think I'd try to gently spray him with a tepid saline solution, to try and wash off the caked blood, before applying any TCP. Oh I'm quite concerned about this little chap now! It's got me keeping a closer eye on the ones nesting in our garden. Keep us updated please. |

Cat. I hate cats for this reason. I woudn't mind if they killed the animals quickly and ate it but they just sit there and play with the poor things. He's lucky he was found near my b/f house instead of ours or my dad would have shot it if he saw the state it was in...
Think I'm gonna have to be brave and try and clean it's face at somepoint... all one side is just messed up. The back will be easy to clean it's just it's face... I really don't know what I'm going to do about that. I have a feeling cotton wool or cotton buds and dabbing it might be the way. It's dace and neck just look like tar has been spilt onto it the blood is that thick and black bless him :/
I tried to look for mealworms today and nothing so I might see if there are any fatballs at my b/f house when I go back tonight and try and get one of us to hold him and the other to clean what we can of him :(
I'll try and get some photo's if it doesn't freak out. I need to take some to e-mail the Pidegeon place anyway :/ |
