Hi bit confused but do you need a thermostat with a 7w heat mat my local pet shop said i dont and on other people are saying i do

i, personally, would never use any size heat mat without a stat, just isn't worth the risk in my opinion

My 7.5w what reach over 35 degrees if unstated. Its a must with any type of heater.

1.0 western hognose (hero)
1.0 phantom reverse pin dal brindle crested gecko (goyle)
0.2 red dal red harly (sprite) 99% full pin Harley crested gecko (TuLong)
0.0.3 miomantis paykullii
0.0.3 Bombina orientalis (oriental fire bellied toad)
0.3 fancy mice (snap, crackle and pop)
1.0 yorkshire terrier (jasper)
2.1 cats (echo, shadow and pokey)

Contrary to popular belief a Thermostat is not an optional acessory this is a thread that pops up a lot on here and in a few groups on Facebook that i belong too so the other day i did a lil experiement with an unstatted 7 watt heatmatt i only left it on for ten minutes,,the result is below

Carter that was when i decided to take the pic a few minutes after it was up to 49 at which point i switched it off it makes me mad that so many pet shops advise new hobbyists that stats are unessacery as you can see this was only a small 7 watt 6x11 mat

Even under the tank as i have some of mine though it might not pose a serious burn risk exposure to prolonged high temps can cause serious neurlogical damage theres absolutely no way id consider not using a stat for any of my lot

if its under the faun it could potentially melt the plastic too and cause a fire risk

It may be worth you reading this thread that was posted not so long ago which shows a melted faun on page 2 when a stat was not used.
