Henry has only struck twice with me and only tossed 1 coil on. I think this was because the old owner just placed her dinner in then closed the viv, so she never had to work for it.

I think striking depends on either the snake or about how much you wiggle the mouse.

Younger snakes usually have to learn to do it, so don't expect it much when they are little. Casper started trying when he got to about 18 months, now he over strikes, which I think is showing off because he's learnt a new trick.

Cyd is our best striker, she strikes everytime without fail. But shes a big girl now- about 4 years old-ish. Plus she likes the hunt so we play about with her a while, letting her get the scent of the mouse and stuff.

I've started to do this with cecil, trailing his food around his viv. its great to watch him follow the trail with his tongue then he gets to the food and kind of half strikes, nothing like in the video!! that is one mean strike!!!!!

Nice healthy strike, but i would feed him on paper.
Just tear off some newspaper and place it in the viv before you put the food in. The mouse might be dry and fluffy, but if it bursts, all that wood will stick to it.
One piece of that wood in its throat could kill your snake, or cause impaction.
The vent, could become blocked with wood, not allowing the snake to pass uric lumps or stools.

Check this out, because feeding on paper is a good thing. http://www.lbah.com/reptile/fecalith.htm
