Hi guys, well today after i Saphy i ushered her from her feeding ground to her viv and she proceeded to hunt/roam around for a while like she was looking for more or something, Iv read somewhere that corns are oportunist eaters so will eat when they can, is she possibly ready for 2 pinkys instead of just the one or have i moved her from 1 every 5 days to every 7 too quick ?
I think i will put her back to 5 and see how she goes from there
Any advice, ideas wuold be much appreciated
thanks Nick |

She may still be hungry especially if she has recently shed. My vet told me it was more nutricious for a snake to eat larger mice then 2 or 3 at a time. Is she big enough for a fuzzie? If you are feeding her live I would definately only feed her one at a time. But if she is eating prekilled mice there shouldnt be no harm in her taking on 2 every 7 days. If she wants it well i believe she should have it. Hope this helps. |

They will always hunt, even after they've eaten. It's a natural instinct from when they were wild, because they are opportunist eaters and common sense dictates to them that if they've happened upon one mouse there, then more mice might be in that area.
You have to be careful with corns because they can become fat if you feed them too much. Greedy little sods really.
I've got a corn that would quite happily wolf down 2 to 3 adult mice or rats straight after one another in one sitting if I let her. She's a right pie-muncher |

I have been told that it is not a good idea to feed more than 1 item of food at a time as once the first item is in the snake's stomach, gastric juices start working on it. Once the second item is swallowed, it is not so easily digested and this will increase the chances of regurgitation.
What do others think? It is just that I believe my corn snake (5 months old, 19 inches long) needs more than 1 pinky now but is not really big enough for a fluff. I have fed him 1 pinky every 5 days but last time fed him 2. He managed fine but I am concerned now that I shopuld stick to just 1 pinky. |

I went through the process of 1 pinky, then 2Ps then 3Ps and she never regurgitated once. She's now 25" and on fuzzy mice, still having no trouble what so ever! Im feeding once every 7 days and she still roams about after feeding for afew minutes the goes into her hide to digest.
I was told by a friend that you should keep feeding on a pinky for 7-8 weeks then move to 2 pinkys for the same amount of time, then 3P and so on. Of course you dont have to stick to that time frame but ive been sticking to this and Angelia is growing nicely and like is said had no problems what so ever. Id say go with your instinct though because you know your snake better than anyone. |

Well judging from her size, see pic
I would say she isn't ready for a fuzzy, il go back to feeding her 1 every 5 for the time been and see how she gets on

Hi there, im just a newbie, i'v had my anery aztec for a month and shes on 2 pinkies a week, but i noticed she was still very active after consuming her food, so i thot i would try her with a third mouse one night. she reacted to this by striking hard ( which she hadnt really done b4 ) and slightly wrapped round it, i was astonished to see this as i didnt think i would witness this kind of behaviour untill she was a little older, shes only 7 months old, shes just slightly bigger than your corn. but she feeds on 2 fine. il keep it at tht as i dnt wanna orush her into things. |
